Thanks! Should we continue this here or in the Mexican elections thread?
And of course CDMX has a woman at the helm - I believe her official title is Governor since CDMX is DF - a separate district not in a State - (like Washington DC and Buenos Aires DF). But her title is often being translated as mayor, and of course as mairesse in Montréal, where we also have our first woman mayor.

I think we can just leave it here, as I at least can't add any more. That first link above addresses the importance of CDMX'S mayor. I gnash my teeth at what the mainstream news calls "leftist". Are you happy about your mayor?

I am, as the city was mired in corruption. Not that I think women are less corrupt than men - look at the last Mexican President's wife's real-estate deal. But they are more often outside the "old boys' network".
Moreover, she advocated some progressive environmental and urbanism positions that I also support.

Thanks Kerouac. I wanted to post but you beat me again.
Makes now 188 years that we kicked out the bloody dutchs.
Our king delivered a speech full of parallels without Red Devil's soccer team : we are diverse but find force in unity.
Funny btw to think we are a kingdom. But somehow I like it. The king is not paid or has no personal interest and needn't prove himself (good for him). He ll still be there until his death.
So tomorrow packing and watching fireworks then going south.

Is that why Belgian food - and beer - are so much better than the Dutch equivalents?

Thanks, Bjd. When I woke up this morning I realized I was not in the time zone I was born in, which meant I got to be young for a few hours longer.

I may be mistaken, but didn't you get that backwards? Not that I know where you were born, and of course t'aint nobody's business...
I presume you are having a fine time - hell, you took the warmth of NOLA, Oaxaca and other sunny climes to grey, chilly North Holland.
How are you celebrating?
And if I may say so, you're looking splendid!

LaGatta, I was born at 6 a.m. , July 28 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I'm in Amsterdam, so when I got up this morning at quarter to seven, it wasn't even midnight of the 27th in Baton Rouge. I am having a fine time, thank you very much. The past few days I thought I'd brought the hot mugginess of a Louisiana summer here to practically-Scandinavia. Low key celebrating ~ went to the antique mall, walked around a bunch, came home, went back out later to Pride Park (special event at Vondelpark) Thank you SO MUCH for that compliment, which will be saved to take out and fondle whenever I need a boost.

It is incredible, we had that kind of hot mugginess up here too. Now, that is not at rare as the Netherlands or Scandinavia, as our climate is humid, and there is a huge temperature gap between summer and winter, but such an extended severe heatwave is unusual, and it extended from a wide swath or Russia to much of Canada.
A blessing - we've just had a flash rainstorm. I did have to shut the door and windows, but was able to leave the balcony door a bit, and enjoy the strong rainstorm. It has stopped now, ad the air is so fresh.

I always enjoy having the knowledge of Bixa and my father sharing the same birthday (he would have been 103 years old). It not only makes it easy to remember it it also is very special. Unfortunately, he died way too young (age 48). The medical techniques in our then tiny town were so arcane. He would have survived most likely had the technology been more advanced. Anyway, I do hope you had a wonderful day. And, to echo LaGatta you really do look fabulous!

bixa, happy birthday as well as a happy day after. If as you say this one is a difficult birthday (was there a zero or a five in it?), by now the worst is over.
