You got in before me Kerouac. I was going to boast about taking part in the Coronation flypast that day, only it wasn't the big one in UK but our smaller scale one in Egypt. Pity about the fingerprint of the person who developed the film.

Why was the coronation held a full year after she became queen? Was it to give a years time to mourn the death of her father, the king?

On a very small scale: one year ago today I officially joined AnyPort. I've been back here a few times since. It's a great place to hang out.

The fingerprint almost makes the picture!
They were saying on the French news (because the French have enquiring minds as well) that the coronation took place much later because it is inappropriate to have such a joyous event when the nation is still in mourning.

I have always remembered the general date the king died because I've seen copies of old newspapers from the month I was born. The king's death, and Elizabeth's succession to the throne, were in the headlines.

Pity about the fingerprint But Mossie -- you can use that to hunt him down & make him do it over! (GREAT pic, by the way.) one year ago today I officially joined AnyPort. I have always remembered the general date the king died because I've seen copies of old newspapers from the month I was born. The king's death, and Elizabeth's succession to the throne, were in the headlines. Me too, Htmb, except for me it was Elizabeth I.

I don't think I could find who did the fingerprint. At the time the life expectancy of the locals was 36 My plane is not in the photo, our squadron was spaced out as per the far one. I took the photo. The King died while I was on my leave prior to going out to Egypt, Feb 1952. The time lag was also down to the paraphernalia of organising such a grand event while we were still only recovering from the war. People moan about austerity now, they ain't seen nuthin yet. ;D

Never dawned on me that you might have taken the picture. Of course you wouldn't be in it.

A friend of mine grew up in England in the 50s. She had great teeth with no cavities. She attributed that to the sugar rationing in England during her formative years.

Very late for this as it's already the 4th in parts of the world, but maybe people in the US & Canada will appreciate it. Posted by one of my cousins on facebook: For all of you old coots out there. Happy "Billy Joe McCalister" day.

Ich bin ein Berliner - President John Kennedy said this in his speech in Berlin 50 years ago today. And things have changed very much in the world since then.
