Most people seem to either love them or hate them, and not a great deal inbetween. Sometimes, this has a LOT to do with Bono ....
What do you reckon to 'em ?
For me, their earlier stuff up to Achtung Baby are some of my favourite albums/songs, and they're a top band. After 1990/91, however, they've done the best they're ever going to do, but at least still manage to chug out stuff that tries to change a bit and is still semi-reaonable 'pop' music. Unlike twats like Oasis, who have had 2 decent-ish albums, and try to recreate that in every one since.

Well, there's nothing to 'get'. It's just a noise you like or don't like. Trying to make it anything more than that is silly.

If I 'get' to understand what they are doing, I could later on decide if I like or dislike.

Do you not just 'listen' and then decide ? What else is there to do ?

It is just kind of expressing their music is beyond liking or disliking for me. Just a way of saying to percieve what they do, just meaningless.
Moreover, if we say music is a tool for expression of feelings and thoughts you might like the way of expression itself, or what it is trying to express or just the melody.
I try to say, I have none of them while listening to them.

I went to a U2 concert once, long long ago, at a racetrack. I think the opening act was Simply Red.

I like concerts at racetracks. I can even listen U2 over there with some support of green grass, sun and cans of beers.
But it should be cans, not bottles. It is the bit that has the most importance.

Dammit, I find myself agreeing with Gyro again!!! I drew the line with them after seeng them live on the Zooropa tour. It was one of the best evenings of live music I have been to outside of festivals. Then they just seemed to change for the worse thereafter. I am actually quite loyal with my tastes but I bought nothing by them since that tour ticket.

I don't think they're especially BAD now, just not as good. But at least they still try.
Pep's, I'm not gonna bother; I don't often seem to understand your verbiage.
