I just got a new lens (45-200mm f/4.0-5.6 Lumix G Vario MEGA OIS Zoom) for my Panasonic G2. Can't wait to test it out...
Anyone else using a m4/3 system?

Soooooo, I just ordered a Fotodiox adapter so I can use some old OM manual lenses. I got an OM 50mm/1.8 from my Mom over the weekend. She also gave me a Soligor 95 - 310mm / 5.6 which is a hell of a zoom on a m4/3 camera (it equals 190 - 620mm). This lens also functions as a "macro" lens. I hope to play with them both this weekend! FYI: If you have any old manual lenses collecting dust and you own a new digital SLR, you may want to check and see if there are adapters made to fit the old lenses to your current camera. Some of the old glass is way better than the new "kit lenses". Or if you don't want to bother...feel free to mail the old manual lenses to me! ;D

If I knew anything about cameras, I might know what you are talking about!

I took my camera to the camera hospital today for a complete cleaning. It is completely filled with dust... inside, where dust should never be allowed. How does it get there? I gave my okay for any procedure up to 100 euros while wondering if it would not be better to upgrade to a new camera instead. But I have always liked this one and am comfortable with it.
I totally mistreat it, as anyone who knows me can attest.

I saw on the internet there are a zillion tutorials for taking apart the camera and cleaning it yourself. Not for me! My brother would probably love doing something like that. When he was 4 years old, he took clocks apart and put them back together. He clearly got all of the Mr. Fix-it genes, because I don't have any at all.
There was a website that specialises in Lumix cameras (and ONLY Lumix cameras). Seems to be a one-man operation, quite reputable, but you have to send it to Lyon or some place like that and on top of that the website said "I'm closed in July, so don't bother contacting me until August."

I loved my little lumix point and shoot...Jeff bought me a more expensive Cannon with a higher optical zoom which I sort of have to use...but the lumix is my favourite.

I use a Lumix TZ200, the TZ standing for travel zoom. It is a very pocketable little camera, the zoom goes from 24 to 360 mm which is more than enough for most situations, and one can use it in totally automatic mode which makes it easy to use. One can fiddle about with different settings like the 'big' cameras, but it is much easier for quick snaps which is my preferred type of photography. It is quite an expensive camera, but I notice dealers are still selling the older versions, such as the TZ80 reasonably cheaply and that is still an excellent little camera. The big advantage I find is that people very often don't notice that you are taking photos, as this.

I am also a fan of Lumix .. I have several from pocket to bridge to underwater. I have never made the transition to inter changeable lenses and probably never will ,it all gets too technical for me at that point and I am completely with you K2 .. absolutely no way would I try to take a camera apart.

I still have two other cheap Lumixes to use until I get the good one back. In fact, I used one of the cheap ones the other night for another potential report. Have not really investigated the results yet to see if they are worthy.

I'm with Mossie about not fiddling around and also about dinky cameras making it easier to discreetly take pictures. I've had two Lumixes -- the lower end ones -- but my heart now belongs to Sony.

Mick, my camera is the Sony RX100 IV. The one I had before this one was the original Sony RX100. The one I'm presently using has a viewfinder, which is a pretty nice feature. The one thing many people don't like about my camera is that it has very limited zoom. This is an email I sent to a friend on that subject: Look what I came across, which I think is pretty exciting. I know that you like my little Sony but that your reservation about it is the lack of any real zoom. This Sony is in many ways identical except for a very nice 30x zoom. (if you'll remember, that Panasonic I used to use only had a 20x zoom which was fairly impressive). The other impressive thing is the price, which is less than even the oldest of the RX100s. This is a good, balanced review with much information: thecameraguide.org/sony-hx80-is-this-the-ultimate-travel-camera/Here is a side by side comparison with my camera: www.imaging-resource.com/cameras/sony/rx100-iv/vs/sony/hx80/

My brother and I were comparing our cameras in Italy recently, his a Sony RX100-something, and my Canon S-120. I really like his Sony even though he dinged the lens in a fall in Nepal and it won't manually focus anymore, but I couldn't get past the lens poking out even when it turned off. It just didn't slide in and out of the trouser pocket like my much smaller Canon will. The Sony has a bigger sensor which allows one to make bigger prints, but I never make big prints which renders that mostly academic. He's getting a Canon the next time. I think all the big makers make excellent P&S compact cameras now, it's pretty hard to go wrong.

I have had various brands of cameras but lately I can't be bothered with fiddling settings so I'm happy with the camera I have now: also a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ 150. It has a good zoom starting from a fairly wide angle, the latter I rarely use unless it's inside a room. It's a few years old already so has probably been superseded but I don't take that many photos any more.

It was meant to be a play on Sonny and Cher. Sigh...

So, I finally got the quote from the camera hospital today. They want 293.78 euros to fix the camera (minus the 46 euros that I already had to pay to get an estimate). That's more than I paid for that camera in the first place. So I refused, and they will return the camera to me as is. I'll see about getting the lens cleaned by the Lumix specialist who is on holiday in the coming months.
So I just ordered a Lumix DC-TZ90 to replace it. The summer sales are on, and it is 30% off, saving me something like 113 euros. Even though I bought it from FNAC as usual, it is coming through one of their secondary vendors... from Hong Kong.

Actually, I have already received an email for downloading the manual. Then again, I almost never read the manual.
