And do you call for her: “Moll-y” or “Here Molls” ? (Both 2 syllable with higher first note.)

I'm having a new mice episode. I did get a larger one (mama?) but the others are so cute and tiny that it is very difficult for them to set off the traps. Got one today, though. So cute, smaller than my thumb! I discovered that they love peanut butter, so that is what I use, but it is pretty easy to eat delicately, so I keep finding empty traps, even though I have started winding thread around the bait to make them pull it.
I think I might go back to grilled lardons, another mouse favourite but considerably more solid and requiring a bit of tugging.
This might be one of my worst episodes, because I have not actually seen live mice for years, but in the last week there were two times when I was in the room and one of them started to cross the floor in the middle of the day (when they are supposed to be nocturnal). The moment they saw me ("un-oh, there's that big guy!"), they turned and ran back in the other direction.
I am just happy that they are upstairs and not downstairs (kitchen and bedroom...).

going through the lists of dogs for adoption Ohhhh, ~ that's wonderful, Questa! And I love the idea of Avatar as a name if it winds up fitting your new furry friend. “Experts” recommend two-syllable names for pets What do they know?! One of my dogs is named Oliver, a name that came to me the moment I saw him. He was adopted at the age of 2 1/2 years & responded to his name right away, which I guess means he approves. Darla has a middle name & I often call her by both names -- all three if she's ignoring me. All of the dogs have elaborate nicknames with many syllables. I am just happy that they are upstairs and not downstairs (kitchen and bedroom...). YET.

The “experts” were mainly against one syllable names. Which longer pet names are often shortened to.
One syllable names are often lengthened for calling purposes.
I’d hesitate to choose a longer name like Avatar that doesn’t easily contract to nice shortened versions.

Totally disagree.
Now for a real trauma: my iron died! I somehow didn't even know this could happen. There I was, happily and successfully ironing the collar of a linen blouse when I noticed that the steam function seemed not to be working. I turned it off and started ironing a different section of the blouse, but with no results. Hmmm. It's just dead. The light doesn't come on when I turn the iron on and it doesn't get hot. Why?! I think I've had it for @15 years, but it's not as though it gets overused. The brand is Rival, if anyone cares.

I think yor iron done plumb wore out.
Do you wind the cord around the iron before you put it away? or coil the cord in the same pattern so that the bends in the cord always fall into the same place? Fie! Shame on any cords at all that are always folded in the same way. Eventually the cord goes stiff with age (Don't I know it) and cracks, losing its protective cover and PffT! the iron shorts out. Once this would be accompanied by a shower of sparks but now most places have to have a Residual Current Device fitted so we don't actually kill ourselves.
Congratulations on your new iron and recycle old faithful.

One does not yet have a new iron. One does have wrinkled clothes.
What galls me about the iron crapping out is that I take neurotically good care of it. When I finish ironing I unplug the iron and put it on the floor so it will cool off. I very loosely wind up the cord just enough to get it out of the way when I put it up. The iron looks like the day I bought it. Oh well, it probably works out to my having spent a dollar a year or less for the thing. Even so, it's very very high up on the list of deadly boring purchases.

I bought a highly-rated induction hob from IKEA, and have not yet been able to understand the instructions, although I've read them in the three North American official languages more than once. And yes, I have graduate degrees, and marks that have merited several scholarships. Useless for everyday life? I'll invite my recently returned Argentine friend over. She has at least as many useless degrees, but grew up in a small town and gained a lot of hands-on skills. Need some wine and the Argentine sausages I can buy round the corner, though the butcher's is now run by Chileans - the Argentine owner retired and his head helper took the business over. Like Colombians and Venezuelans, they are frenemies with similar cultures and dialects.

Ah Lagatta -- induction cooktops are not hard to figure out. You have a computer and that is much more complicated. Just press the on/off sign. The heaters only turn on if there is a pot on the ring. And you need adapted pots, not aluminum. Nothing will happen if the pan you put on is not adapted to induction.

Avatar would make a better kennel name. "Avatar Sir Wobbily Bumchops" Best in Show...has a good ring to it.
Actually I have found a dog that I fancy. 'Sofie' is a one yr old dachshund X good confirmation and her report says she is good with kids, cats and other dogs. The shelter sent me the routine Inquisition forms...took me over 5 hours to fill them in. The last question was "Why a dog?" With difficulty I teetered between"Why not?" and "Because my elephant doesn't fit in the living room" but played it cautiously. I spent days wading through 2800+ pictures to find her, and she is a compromise. Bit younger and heavier than I was after.
I'll get busy with my avatar tomorrow.

As neighbors of someone who got a new induction stovetop, we were beneficiaries of several nice pots and pans that they could no longer use. :-)

Went to donate blood yesterday and ended up having my donation abandoned because it clotted in the cannula. The nurse fiddled about so much I've ended up with a big black bruise. Very annoying, I knew that the nurse wasn't concentrating...she's never cocked up before. I'm cross because I'm only allowed to donate 4x per year. Still got my coffee and biscuits tho,,,,

I would call the dog Sophie. Is a dachshund a German sheep dog or the sausage type dog that we call teckel ? (I have had 3 of those - fantastic dogs).

I sympathise with you wholeheartedly Cheery as I went through a similar trauma when I had to have "bloods" done for my upcoming hip replacement operation. The nursing sister was so involved at answering her colleagues questions (butting in rudely) and took her eye off my arm and vein. After not letting the torneque loose as per previous times, she literally squeezed 5 or 6 viles out of me and consequently my arm was black and blue for three weeks. On paying a visit to my pharmacy on another matter I popped my head in at their nurse who does 'bloods' and showed her. To my surprise she asked me for my South African security number, typed it in on her computer, which pulled up all the details of my episode at the hospital and even gave the nurses name who did the poking about on my arm. She was very concerned and wrote a comment on the computer file.

Mild panic today. Jeff was taking Django on his afternoon walk on the golf course when he suddenly became lame on his back leg. Jeff carried him home (he only weighs 11.5 kg but it's a long way!) Poor little dog was trembling and very hot, I rang the emergency vet and we went in...initially thought to be a viper bite but after a thorough examination she decided it was probably soft tissue strain or a sprain. His actual paw is fine it's the section between his paw and knee. So he has ibuprofen and rest prescribed...have to take him back for x ray on Monday if he's no better...£145 so far. Thank goodness for the doggie building society account that I've been paying into monthly since we got him! Not off his food at least...

The poor little sweetie!
Maybe everyone else already knows this, but my vet told me that when a dog is trembling or shivering when it's not cold, it means that the pup is in pain. (well, except for certain chihuahuas or dogs like my Oliver who can't deal with fireworks)

Did the vet check for a tear in the dog's anterior cruciate ligament? If Django started running and playing without a "Warm up" trot this sometimes happens. Molly had both hind legs affected at different times. Two vets advised surgery ($1500 each) but third vet and info from internet advised conservative measures, which worked. Stress of any kind will start small dogs shivering...Molly would shiver when she saw a cat but not allowed to chase it. Actually I have found a dog that I fancy. 'Sofie' is a one yr old dachshund X good confirmation and her report says she is good with kids, cats and other dogs....I spent days wading through 2800+ pictures to find her, and she is a compromise. Bit younger and heavier than I was after. Molly was 7kg and if I had to carry her for more than a few metres I was in pain. I have reached the stage when I look for an older dog who has already has some training and past the "chew everything in sight" stage. There was a mix-up at the adoption place and my application got lost. Some other party is now trialling Sophie. I have found another girl, Mini fox terrier,...4-5 Kg 18 months. Trouble is she is in a town called Moree which is 1518 km away...driving time 43.33 hours! Up near the Qld Border. Get well soon, little Django, you look so sweet curled up getting better in your bed.

I somehow deleted an old photo post of mine on one of the threads. I have no idea how it happened. Now I have to search through two computers and possibly Photobucket and ImageShack to find that series of photos again.

Django seems to hav perked up today....trying to keep him calm to rest the leg. No limp but he hasn't got his perky, bouncy walk yet...better than yesterday and he doesn't seem to be in pain so far.
