Or, like me, find myself staring at cheery's little Dalek doing the twist and find that 5 minutes have passed since I thunk a thought.

Oh bother Mick! I hope your bank does not hold you/cannot hold you responsible for the amount as the card was in your possession all the time...cloning or not. Well that's what my bank told me when someone went on a spending spree with my number.

One of my cards was hacked a couple of years ago, but the bank was extremely reactive and contacted me within 24 hours. "Did you do any of this?" And so everything was cancelled just as fast. Unfortunately, I did not inform that particular bank that I was going to Singapore a few months ago, so when I tried to pay the hotel there, the card was rejected. Luckily, my other card worked. (I learned more than 30 years ago to never go anywhere without at least two cards.)

Crikey....I'm sorry Mick, how awful. We had problems recently when Jeffers fell for a PayPal scam. The bank were very quick to realise what was happening and we got the stolen money reimbursed. Good luck hunny x

Actually, as I recall now, they didn't reach me the first day, but I received a postal letter from them the very next day: "we tried to call you, but..."
So I called them back instantly. It really enhanced my opinion of them, that they would make a double effort to contact me as quickly as possible, but then again it is only logical, since they must refund all frauds if we have not signed or given our codes.

As for me, I got my refund before I was even debited for the expenses -- and actually made a tiny profit from the operations. The big amounts were for the internet site of a major appliance chain in France, but there were other debits for an American video game site. The US dollar had risen a bit just before I was reimbursed, so the refund amount was slightly higher than the debit amount.

When they couldn't get me by phone it would have been nice if they had sent a letter. Apparently they rang me May 17 then rang my work number yesterday .

Is there a thread about theater ? Can't imagine there is none. Anyway I went to see 'les faux British' (a play that was translated) in Paris (St Georges) and I had a good fun. Too bad I wasn't with my wife...

Was just checking members and amazed by how many have joined and never posted. More bothersome to me is how or why some long time members and relatively active posters have seemingly just vanished. Somehow I can't help but think and sometimes feel there's a "cliqueishness"for lack of a better term especially in light of the short term notice regarding the gathering in London that left long term members out of the loop while at the same time sought out members who have not posted in years and were literally courted to attend. Yeah, I'm pouting and feel the right to do so.

Casi, every organisation from kids playing in the mud to complicated NASA teams, is accused of having the "in" kids. They have access to information which the others don't have and seem to know more about what is going on. Those on the 'outside' resent this group and feel 'They' are running the show, but is this a clique?
If you look hard you will notice they are usually on the committee, have set tasks to do in own time, go out of their way to meet new members and help them settle in. They are seen putting out the chairs, getting the refreshments ready, seeking articles for group's newsletter, filling envelopes with newsletter and posting it. They do most of the work to keep the organisation alive. When the time comes to elect a new committee it is like pulling teeth to get newer members to stand for office...so it winds up with the same so-called clique in service again.
On a forum it is easy to be part of the imaginary clique. 1. Read the posts and have a little think about them. 2. Compose an answer to any that interest you. You have insights, questions and answers that others want you to share with them. As you get caught up in discussions and your avatar is seen often, or add your quips to the running jokes, you will see that soon people will be so familiar that you will be part of the 'In crowd'
There are many members here who have posted many posts over time but then disappeared. Could our Helpers compose a short message to welcome them back, and you take on the task of sending this message by PM. to our silent members?

My grandson is roped into a class project collecting the heaviest recycling objects. The prize at the end of it all is that they get to name their own cheetah. Don;t know where this cat is but by gum I'm roaming the neighborhood like a cat myself, sniffing out paper and glass. Newspaper and magazines are the heaviest, but glass wine bottles from my address come in a close second but I need much more - SO! the only place to find an abundant supply is at a restaurants back door. Sunday night here we come..

I can understand old regulars disappearing. Sometimes you get worn out. Like myself on Fodor's : I just deleted my account and don't post anymore...I was fed up with the same people saying the same things over and over and fithing each other... Something I have not seen (much) here.

Winter makes everything seem so strange....I walked out of my front door this morning when the sun was just a faint red glow on the horizon. Where was I going....to school! Almost pitch dark, headlights on, I drove to my grandson's school to await the weigh in for the recycling project. At 7am on the dot the teacher appeared and plugged in the electronic scale and we got weighing. So far my eldest grandson's class is in the lead - I aim to keep it that way.

I think sometimes the impression that some members "courted" or more populär might be really due to Personal friendships, either from previous real Life Meetings or private messaging or other Forums ...
In my old Forum days when i posted lots and lots i sometimes felt like there was a popular crowd and wanted to be Part of it ... In retrospect i think i gave that too much importance ... But also, most people i met in Person were nice, some nicer than expected, and then a few weren't or weren't as interesting as i had thought ...

When I posted regularly on Fodors I met several other Fodorites that happened to be in Paris at the same time. Sometimes only three of us and other times nearer 20. Most were pleasant and after the lunch or dinner we all went our separate ways. I did keep in touch with one lady but that too has gone the way of all one night stands... Since then I have not attended anymore GTG's but rather met people on a one-to-one basis.

I think there is not much point about worrying about posting/not posting, worrying about who is in and who isn't on an internet forum. As Questa said, there are some people who do all the work -- in this case it's mostly Bixa and Kerouac. The rest of us coast along, post pictures when we have something interesting that we want to share, contribute to some discussions but not others. I imagine most other forums work the same way.
As for people who have signed up and never posted, I have no explanation since you can read AnyPort without signing in. Maybe those who used to post and no longer do found other activities or are just taking a break.

Did you see the magnificent word that Whatagain has made for us? (#3633)with a twist of a couple of letters we now have FITHING which follows the same grammar as, say, 'looking' or 'washing'. It can take on any attachments such as 'He fithed at me' or 'She said, fithingly' As it is a word to be read it doesn't matter if you can't actually say it,so people who lisp can be on even ground with non-lispers.
Whatagain has people 'fithing each other' That is a good start.
All we need now are some meanings. Add yours to the list of one!
(you can see I'm pretty fithed this morning)
