Questa - I actually did get back on the subject of 'boobies' by the time we reached home because the youngest wanted to know why some woman want bigger boobs and how did they get them bigger. I simply said the doctor stuffs foam into them. I have to be very careful what I say because I'm only the gran and my views could clash with their mother or father's take on things. But, you have given me the nod that it's quite OK to be frank which I was in another conversation when I asked them to please refer to private parts as Vaginas and penis's when they were gawking at my phone and exclaimed "We can't see her pussy". I nearly went off the road....

I settle for 'genitalia' for general chat and only use the others if I have to be more specific.
In Indonesian language you put 'ke....an' around the root word to say "I was overcome by..." e.g. 'Saya panas' I am hot. 'Saya kepanasan' I am overcome by heat.
The word for shy or embarrassment is 'malu'.
A new Consul gave a faltering speech and apologized to his audience...'Saya kemaluan' thinking he was saying 'I am overcome by embarrasment' Unfortunately this is the correct term for one's genitalia...'the area of extreme shyness' The poor Consul stuck with an interpreter for his stay.

I’m with you Cheery. Kerouac and Mick, just quickly get completely and absolutely pissed, drop down inthe corner and peacefully sleep it all off. Just remember to have a clean set of pants and trousers handy for when you restart your mundane life.

When I see all the shit that hits the fan around the world, I'm OK with a mundane life. Got my clean pants and trousers all ready Mossie - After the Christmas lunch I will be ready to lie on my bed, turn on the TV and watch the Queen's Speech.

Probably because we lived a short walk from their house, my Parents always came to us for Chrismas dinner. My Dad continued to do so after Mummy died, altho with me working shifts at the local hospitals it often meant that Christmas dinner was held on Boxing day or later. After dinner my Dad and I would stay sitting at the table demolishing a bottle or six and talking..sometimes he would tell me things that happened to him during the war (he was in the RAF, a corporal working on Spitfire and Hurricane engines amongst other things) especially about his time in Malta. I would sometimes scrabble about for paper and pen and take notes and I've recently realised that he told me things that he hadn't told any of my five siblings.
My Nephew was here a few days ago, and I told him a few of Dad's tales. He wants my notes (he can just have copies). It made me realise that unless I pass on these stories they will be lost. Makes me wish that we hadn't been so squiffy..but then again, if he hadn't had a few whiskies I doubt that Dad would have opened up so much.

Festive greetings to all who are feeling festive, and peacefully contented warmth to the rest of you.
Sounds like a perfect Christmas in many ways, Whatagain.
Great memories, Cheery. How wonderful that you took notes. It would be great if your nephew decides to put the notes into story form. You might become his font of family history.

Bixa - Thinking of you while we rest our laurels! Yes indeed! Contented warmth for us. I voiced a request that Xmas dinner/BBQ/Al fresco imbibing, be at another venue next year. I coped well but it was a lot of prep in the kitchen and only when your senses start to shout 'NO!" do you eventually collapse in a heap. I loved watching my grandsons open their presents and exude Ooh's and Aah's. I copped out this year in present buying for the first time and rolled up a bank note of a big denomination and stuck it into a cracker with their name on it. When the loot fell out they immediately pocketed it.

My friends and family know that I'm not a sports fan, and that I really don't like football at all (cricket's ok...I like cricket)
Anyway, my Great-Nephew (12 years old) is a super fearless goalkeeper for a junior team for one of the Leicestershire town clubs, he wins man of the match on a regular basis and I adore him so obviously I bought raffle tickets from the lad...they were expensive but for the town team. I won first prize £250. Obviously my Great Nephews get a cut..20% each (they're thrilled btw). What a nice way to start the new year....(I get the cheque next week after the holiday)
I still don't like football tho.....

It has just gone 12 midnight in my city.
Happy New Year to all the anyporters.
May the seasons be kind and the planet start to heal itself. May the leaders discover wisdom and compassion and the people good old commonsense. I'll leave others to add to the wish list...what do you want for 2018?

We have not crossed the line yet in Europe, but I wish all the best to everyone.
I know a few people who had a hard time and others who did not make it through the year, but 2018 holds new promise for the rest of us.
I would also like to extend my best wishes to Anyporters who have strayed away from us for whatever reason. If we did anything wrong, I would like to offer my sincerest apologies.

Congratulations, Cheery! As Lugg said, a great way to start the new year. (Hi, Lugg!)
Awww ~ Thank you, Questa! Amazing to think it's not even noon of Dec. 31 where I am, and you are already embarked on 2018.
Marvelous news, Mick! I know you will be putting that time that is now all yours to good use.
The best to you, too, Kerouac. And thank you for reminding us that every year holds new promise.
I'll echo you in sending out greetings and best wishes to all Anyporters, whether visible here or not, and also to all our visitors. Their View- and Guest-counts prove that this forum and its active members continue to provide interesting windows into the world. Naturally, that comes with a world of gratitude to the Anyporters who keep this place lively.
