I had never been to the culture market before, because it seemed like a strange product to sell, but it isn't really when you think about it a little. All of the various places -- museums, theatres, monuments, circuses, annual events, tourist sights -- cost money to be presentable, and they need to bring in some money to keep going. So they have to sell themselves to the public. The culture market is aimed not at just the general public, but also at social clubs, cultural committees, schools, retirement homes, municipalities, etc., which organize outings, trips and events. The market is held once a year along the Bassin de la Villette and is a rather extremely eclectic mixture of "vendors" from the Republic of Iceland to the various châteaux of France.

This is totally delightful! What a great idea. Certainly the attendees seem eager to learn about the various offerings. Did you find out about anything new to you, or at least have your interest piqued about something that had never called to you before? Sure is a nice setting. I love that shot down through the trees. (6th from bottom, reply#2). Are those puppets in that last photo in the OP?

Yes, those are marionnettes in that last photo. The market takes place on a weekend.

I love seeing the look of concentration on the faces of the game contestants. And the photographer on the right side of one game photo looks out of place due to his funky colored clothes.
On a personal note, I am so glad I had an opportunity to walk through this area last June. It is wonderful to see it again through your photos, but also to see the season begin to change.

But that photographer is wearing the height of Parisian fashion! We'll all be dressed that way next year. ;D

Maybe you.
Here's an idea for you.....make a new report of "what's in fashion in Paris" and fill is with photos of people dressed in bright colors, stripes, mismatched plaids, white athletic shoes, and baseball caps. It'd surely be good for a few days worth of comments on some of the travel blogs.

The culture market was this weekend. I didn't manage to drag myself there this year and I kind of regret it.

Yet another oddball exhibition at the bassin de la Villette. It seems as though there are regular events held there, I remember seeing some strange furniture a couple of years ago.

Very interesting! What a super time you must have had just taking your time strolling through the different little exhibitions. I did notice most people were wearing jackets or cardigans. The temp. must have been in the low 20's even though the sun was out?! I hope you have many more of these lovely walks up your sleeve

Well, that was last year's culture market. It would have been a bit warmer if I had gone to the one this weekend -- or then again maybe not, because I went in late afternoon after leaving the nursing home.
