Celebrating same sex marriage in Paris

You may have read that France became the 15th country to allow same sex marriage the other day. While this was an easy thing to do with the Socialist legislature, it was not all that simple in terms of public protest. The Catholic church woke up, as did some of the Muslim and Jewish communities, not to mention of course the Far Right.
There were some huge demonstrations, with another big one coming up next Sunday even though it's after the fact, because the "anti same sex marriage" movement has basically just become an anti government movement, so some people are ready to demonstrate along the lines of "why are you voting this law when there is so much unemployment?"
Some of us, however, are very pleased to see a law that gives new rights to groups that were deprived of them without taking anything away from existing groups.
So the other night when I saw these posters on the bus stop, I decided that I should go and join the crowd.
Although I have some gay and lesbian friends, I do not know any who want to get married (basically because they have lived for decades in a world without the option), but I feel it is important for them to have that option if they change their minds some day. And of course all of the new generations will be able to think about marriage in the future without ever having to consider whether their sexual orientation is a problem or not.

Thus I went to Place de la Bastille on Tuesday night around 9 p.m.
The concert had started at 7 p.m. and was in full swing.
The "JC" on the flag stands for "Jeunesses Communistes."
The concert was sponsored by the LGBT association (Lesbian Gay Bi Trans). I may have incorrectly assumed that this rock girl is perhaps a lesbian.
Before the arrival of Mika, there were some brief speeches by concerned groups. These are the Trans speakers.
It was a very pleasant group of people, even if my age was about 30 years higher than the average.
There were quite a few people around the Bastille.
Mika arrived. He spent his teen years in Paris, after Lebanon and before London.
Demonstrations in favour of something instead of against it are so much more pleasant.
The gendarmerie had nothing to do, which is also wonderful.
Here is my little video of the evening, including the Kombat Gurl, some DJ's and Mika.
