There is a very interesting article, along with a video, in the Gainesville Sun today about a Ugandan janitor turned artist whose work is being displayed at a University of Florida gallery. Mathias Tusiime, a self-taught artist, had been working as a janitor in an art school. After hours, when only abandoned canvases and paint palettes manned the university's art studios, Tusiime's pastime turned into a passion.
When students left after finishing their projects, Tusiime gathered leftover materials — meager at first, but slowly they accumulated into useable supplies.Gainesville Sun article

Yes, very interesting and moving. I love his work! I also love his gaze, which is so much like those of the figures in his painting. Have you had a chance to attend the show?
