The complete isolation looks like the location was chosen by a very strict NIMBY committee.

Actually, the private developer of that growing area chose to add the Ferris wheel to enhance National Harbor. The idea is that it will bring more people and positive growth into a revitalized space.

I've learned more about National Harbor and had dinner at a restaurant there when I was in the Washington, DC area last week. The Capitol wheel is close to completion and the 350 acre resort-like area is filled with shopping, restaurants, and hotel facilities. I took a few random photographs, mostly of the Ferris wheel, which I will post next. Here's a link to the current website, where a new updated version will be going on-line later this spring. "Resort-like area" I should think that Gulliver-like man in the sand would scare the crap out of little kids. But given the appearance of the area, they are not the target audience.

I suppose that's Neptune, and while you're probably right about the target audience, the kids I know would want to climb all over his arms, legs and feet. There's also a carousel, so perhaps there's some attempt to draw kids.

Poor old Neptune, looks like his last gasp. Just as well there is nothing more of him sticking out of the beach.

And is PotBelly a chain cafe like MacDs. A very apt name if it is.

Yes, Mossie, Potbellys is a chain, but very different from McD's. They specialize in freshly made salads and sandwiches. They are frequented by a lot of working people looking for a healthy lunch alternative. I ate at one in the Farragut Square area of DC and it was just fine, despite the name.
We ate at a very nice, high end Mexican restaurant at National Harbor. Delicious food and wonderful service, though it was quite crowded with a bit of a wait.

Neat photos! I especially like the one of the ferris wheel next to a huge arm that seems to ominously rise out of the sea. Just as well there is nothing more of him sticking out of the beach. Ha, good one.

It took a little filling in with sand before I could take pictures, don't ya know.

If there was really an entire statue instead of random pieces, people would keep digging until they saw everything.
