The Centro de Arte Contemporáneo is situated in a large warehouse space of some 2,400 square metres in Malaga. Known locally as the CAC it was officially opened on 17 February and in its first decade has arguably established itself as one of the most important contemporary art museums in Europe.

The museum has a permanent collection comprising around 400 works which have been loaned by private collectors for periods of between three and five years. It is notable for its works created between the 1950s and the present day with an emphasis on North American artists of the 1960s such as Lichtenstein and Stella. There is also a regular programme of temporary exhibitions dedicated to up-and-coming Spanish artists.
Currently there is an exhibition featuring Shepard Fairey, Peter Saul, Erik Parker, D*Face and KAWS.
I’d never heard of these artists so I was interested to see what they produced. I wasn’t disappointed.
Shepard Fairey - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shepard_Fairey - first became known for his link between a wrestler, Andre the Giant - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9_the_Giant – and his OBEY sticker campaign.
Following are photos of the exhibits. Make your own mind up if you like them or not.
I was down in Malaga meeting up with the daughters who were doing a language course for a couple of weeks. Mrs M wanted to visit this museum and I tagged along on the promise that afterwards we’d visit the automobile museum. Little did we know that we’d both enjoy each as I liked the art in this one and at the auto museum each car exhibit was accompanied by a dress of the era. We were both happy.
