Well, we know how much the bastard admires Erdogan. The Saudis are even better, because they don't bother with that silly democracy pretense.

The jaw continues to drop. Trump administration praise for Saudi due to lack of protests... This absolutely does not surprise me at all. When it was announced that his first trip would be to Saudi Arabia, it was obvious that it was because it was one of the only countries in the world where he could be assured that there would be no demonstrations against him upon his arrival. Actually, one of the only other places where he could receive a warm welcome (in media terms) would be North Korea.
It will be extremely interesting to see how he will react to his 'welcome' in Brussels and Italy.
Probably, I should mention that the very first state visit of François Mitterrand was also to Saudi Arabia, but it was a completely different epoch with not at all the same controversy.

Well, Brussels and Rome happen to be cities where I know people, and protests (by a range of people) are planned. The main thing will be ensuring no violent extremists take advantage of them.
In Rome, there will probably be Catholic pacifist types as well as others. There have been many Popes as venal as Trump, but I have a hard time seeing him in the same room as Francisco/Francesco...
Funny, I don't remember Mitterand's visit to Saudi Arabia... Time passages.

That's because it wasn't controversial in those days.
And it was excellent for oil supplies in troubled times.

There is understandable perplexity in the media about why Melania Trump remained bareheaded in Riyadh (which is an understandable political statement in line with former First Ladies and other major female politicians visiting Saudi Arabia), but at the Vatican she and Ivanka wore unnecessary veils and also dressed in black. What's with that? Can't wait to see the welcome that Trump gets in Brussels!

Ivanka is a convert to Judaism (because of her husband).
US officials also leaked the identity of the Manchester bomber before British police officially named him.

I'm not familiar with the particular confession of either the Donald or Melania... The Donald worships Mammon, of course. Meanwhile, Melania is counting down the hours, days, months and years until she can demand a divorce and get a fat settlement.

Melania is Roman Catholic, so she is obviously consumed with guilt.

Anyone raised Roman Catholic and meeting with the Pope would out of sheer respect wear a mantilla. It would be unheard of and disgraceful to not do otherwise and I'm sure Melania's parents are likely still alive and expect for her to pay proper respect in this regard.
As for the daughter, I don't know how that works but, it seems to be a great excuse for her to make an out of the ordinary fashion statement.
Why pass it up?

The slitty-eyed bimbo has her mantilla on backwards. Do you think? I can't really tell. Looks ok to me I guess.

No -- if you get a good enough side view you can tell. The point goes in the FRONT. I think Jackie Kennedy was the only first lady to wear one correctly. Hillary wore hers like a kerchief when she met the Pope in 1994. Much as it pains me to say it, two women who pulled off the black dress w/veil look were Nancy Reagan & Margaret Thatcher. Grace Kelly looked really nice in her get-up in 1957 and the ever photogenic Diana did as well. Michelle Obama looked like a particularly frumpy Muslim woman. Melania must have loooved the look, as it probably made her feel like a widow. I've already got my outfit planned in case I meet a Pope ~

How do the upper echelon VIPs, male and female, handle the 'taking off the shoes' custom when they visit those places that require it? I am thinking they don't hop around on one foot while untying laces.

That is true, Bixa. I knew it looked strange but couldn't quite place it. It did look more like widow's weeds: "Cripes, can't the old creep just kick the bucket already? I've done my duty".
I don't think the Trudeaus have met the Pope yet but they are supposed to do so soon, in the context of the summits. I'm sure Sophie will get the mantilla right. Both are of course ostensibly Catholic, and I think Sophie will be careful about the fashion angle.

I want to see his its handshake with the pope, who is after all a smallish man with no imperative to project a macho persona. In the clip I saw, the two were only shown from the shoulders up, cutting off the all-important hand clench. As with all of dickwhistle's handshakes, it seemed to go on for longer than necessary.
Meanwhile the sack of shit has, with the Nato speech, made absolutely sure that the world knows how ignorant and intransigent he is.

Did you see how he barged the Montenegro guy out of the way so he'd be at the front of the photo shoot? The way he preened himself reminded me of Mussolini. Maybe he'll end up the same way..

The more I see of Trump, the one I find confirmation that he is one total dickhead. Completely ignorant about not only foreign affairs or politics, but with no class at all.

The Pope's expression looks as if he's thinking, I know I'll burn in hell for wishing him dead but it will be worth it. ( Bixa, I would so love to hear you describe how you would dress/adorn yourself while meeting the Pope . Pretty please??)

I'd love to see Bixa wearing something beautiful from Oaxaca, or is that seen as "cultural appropriation" nowadays?
