It can't be only me who has noticed the irony in this world wide cyber attack happening by using tools stolen from the National Security Agency.

It was the first thing that hit me in the report. I made the gesture of Face Palm, had a little chuckle then shook my head slowly in quiet desperation. Who is minding the shop?

I did notice that, but I was so upset by the attack on the NHS that it seemed a minor detail at the time. Hospitals couldn't even do x-rays. People could die because of this.

More irony -- right after reading about how the tools for the cyber attack came from the NSA, I read a suggestion that we should protect our data by uploading it to the cloud. Someone immediately responded by saying that would be tantamount to protecting your money by putting it in the hands of the neighborhood drug dealer.

One good thing to come out of the current situation is the discovery (for me at least) of the rich and powerful vocabulary possessed by Bixaorellana. Always descriptive and precise to the point of visual, her adjectives leave no doubt of her analysis of the genetic background and parentage of the subject, nor the suitability to hold any office above that of cleaning the pigeon-poo off the statues of those who were real Presidents. Go Bixa...you rock! Sorry for the threadjack but I simply have to comment on this post. Bixa has always come up with the very best, most clever, and funny descriptions of people, places and things. And, should you ever have occasion to hear her curse words you will never forget them and likely adopt some of them yourself as I have many. I remember one in particular that I still use and remember exactly where I was when I first heard it. I adopted it and I remember my husband saying "I never heard you use that before, where did that come from?" My response was "take a wild guess..." He nailed it immediately.

Ozzies are noted for their colourful cursing so here is a traditional one for you, Mr Orange bum-fluff...
"May your chooks [hens] turn into emus and kick your dunny [outhouse toilet] down and the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits"

Thanks, Casimira ~ I guess. When I die I will be remembered for my vituperation. That's a traditional curse, Questa?! What do you all say when you're just doing cursing lite?

That's a good one Questa but, I don't know if I could memorize/recall it given my short term memory loss.
Bixa's expletives always had brevity and UMPH along with spontaneity.
(again, sorry for the thread jack...)

Just chipping in with my lousy wifi from the coast to say, as much as I detest Trump and all who sail with him, I enjoy Bixa's posts about him too.
I have not always followed US politics a lot, but do think I have never seen any president be insulted quite so much in newspapers (and not just by moronic Republicans in opposition). The other day in the Guardian, some editorialist talked about the "empty space between Trump's ears". Not a patch on Bixa, of course, but no usual in a paper.

I have not always followed US politics a lot, but do think I have never seen any president be insulted quite so much in newspapers (and not just by moronic Republicans in opposition). I believe you are absolutely right, Bjd. At his very first press conference as president-elect, Trump aggressively refused to answer a reporter and famously called CNN "fake news". Then, at his first solo press conference as president, he used the time to berate the press. His latest disregard for the public's right to information was shown in his threat to simply issue written statements to the press, rather than have open press conferences. So yeah, the fourth estate, including the blandest of mainstream media, is not only fighting back, it is fighting for its right to exist. One of the reasons for my fondness for The Guardian is that it early on took off the gloves when it came to the dangerous buffoon now in the White House. Yes, that is displaying bias, but it was an open display and did not interfere with true reporting. ... Trump has brought his blatant disregard for the truth, and his calculated enmity toward the media, into the White House with him. ... [David Maraniss, a veteran Washington reporter, said:] "They are at war with press,” ... “It will not hold. It is not just war on press. It is attack on democracy and the search for truth.”The above is from a New Yorker article published on Jan. 22. Nothing since then has negated the perception of Trump as an enemy of the truth. LaGatta, I read your linked article yesterday. Let's hope that people who haven't followed the news enough to be alarmed about the direction the US is taking will at least care enough about their children to sit up and take notice.

As POTUS, Trump may have some "discretion" in " declassifying information. If that's what he did.
He's in so far over his head. Can't he just drown already, and not take the rest of us down with him?

I get the impression that anyporters are just beyond words as Trump jumps many a shark and heads off to the Old World, to cosy up to the Saudis, manage to offend Palestinians and Israelis alike, deliberately insult the Pope, and act utterly blindsided by the summit meetings.

I read this morning that Trump doesn't like to be away from home. His meal in Saudi Arabia will be steak and ketchup, while the others have the official meal.
There was a great line in the BBC article this morning about Trump's complaining that the Russia affair is a witch hunt. "There is a boiling cauldron and a lot of broomsticks."

Looks like the over-blown scenes in Bond type movies where the villains are plotting to overthrow the world as we know it.

Chap in the suit on the right wishes he were somewhere else, while the one on the left has the smirk of someone who knows a secret that the others don't. He and Trump are only touching the ball with fingertips but His Majesty has both outstretched hands firmly covering much of the globe. As for DT...the lighting makes his face all spooky like when we were kids and held a torch [flashlight] under our chin to make our faces scare our younger siblings.
