It is often quite nice when there is a really slow news night and they drag out one of the reports they have in stock when there is no "real" news to report. Tonight I learned about the Balinese village of Bengkala, which is one of the places in the world with the highest percentage of deaf residents due to a recessive gene in the population.
It appears that a great majority of the local population has learned the local sign language and that being deaf is no longer necessarily a handicap.
A unique language gives hope to a new generation
