Oh, I read that article yesterday and was fascinated! My mother recently finished reading Someone Knows My Name (originally published in Canada as The Book of Negroes). I had sent it to here as I was enthralled by it when I read it, as was she. Even though the events in the book (based on a true story) took place almost 100 years earlier, the story of Redoshi brought home again how horribly long slavery lasted in the US. And there are photographs of her in the NYT article!

This piece of news went around the world, and that reassured me as to the state of the world. This sort of item only comes out on a slow news day. If only there were more of those.
