I've just sent for some Himalayan blue poppy seeds (Lingholm). I understand it's a long term project but I'm hoping that they end up as lovely as the one in your photo

I bought 5 plants last spring and crossed my fingers, I was thrilled to see them reappear this spring and that one was going to flower. They are very picky - this is my second attempt by the way.

I love this gorgeous tiny flowering plant. It’s Ivy Leaved Toadflax. It grows in places you’d think are totally inhospitable, dry cracks and crevices for example. I’ve admired it for years, wishing it would grow in the crevices of our block paved drive and footpaths. I found some seeds online, which I sowed in 3” pots today, once established I’ll place the pots strategically close to the drive and footpaths, cross my fingers and hope Mother Nature will do the rest. 😎😊🤞

I adore this plant, it self seeds readily. The petals change colour as they age and die. Oenothera versicolor 'Sunset Boulevard'

I planted a few pink oenotheras two years ago. They indeed self-seed.

I've never seen an Oenothera that looks like that before, it's beautiful. If it's like the ordinary yellow ones I've grown, it's an easy plant.

Does that variety have more of a solid "bell" over it before it gets all lacy like that? Also, is it edible? Very striking.

Yes there is a covering, not my photo by the way - I’m growing a non edible variety - Physalis alkekengi. Edible variety is Physalis edulis known as Cape Gooseberry - www.rhs.org.uk/plants/127419/physalis-edulis/details

Most interesting! I've never grown gooseberries, nor even eaten them. I have grown tomatillos -- sometimes by default, as they volunteer so readily out of the compost. When I looked up Physalis alkekengi, I found it has changed its name: It’s a bit ironic that bladder cherry was the original “physalis,” because it has now been booted out of the genus of the same name. While it was previously classified as Physalis alkekengi, its preferred new classification was changed to Alkekengi officinarum in 2012 after a genetic analysis of Chinese lantern and its relatives. Not all sources have adopted this new classification yet, so you’ll often still see it called P. alkekengi. It’s sometimes referred to as P. franchetii, as well. sourceClicking around google, it would appear that P.alkekebgi is still the more used of the two names.

Common plant names obviously vary around the world - common plant names are fascinating but cause confusion…. My go to is the Royal Horticultural Society… I tend to trust them as do most uk gardeners I reckon. www.rhs.org.uk/search?query=Physalis
