Thank you for sharing your “dead” experiences in both places. This is my first and I’m in SMA - lots of tourists, but everyone is having a good time. So colorful and I love the decorated doorways. Thank you so much! I'm thrilled for anyone getting to see days of the dead in Mexico, especially for the first time. San Miguel must be beyond beautiful right now!

It's where me & Julio play.
Those vendors are on the sidewalk bordering the school. It all kind of runs together into the market.

This was such a treat Bixa ... your photographs are, as ever just so good. Great finishing images, I do hope we all get to see more of your new home and the area when you get chance .

A very interesting thread, Bixa, and super photos. It’s also a nice way to get to see more glimpses of your new town.
I find it very interesting to hear how Oaxaca has become even more crowded with tourists. I know it definitely had its draw back in 2016, but it didn’t feel overly crowded to me at the time. I can’t imagine what it must feel like now.

A belated thank-you, Htmb!
You were there at the most crowded, excessive time of the year, but of course that was because of a major festival. Seven years on, it is just too obvious how Oaxaca's trendiness and hotspot status have changed the very feel of the city on a daily basis. Admittedly, there are new things that sound quite attractive, such as sophisticated dining options. But there is now a hipster self-aware vibe coupled with the extreme commercialization of the wonderful culture which just saddens the hell out of me.
