Any adept of alcohol free January ? I have been doing it for several decades now and I find it quite healthy. I usually lose weight sleep better and get drunk quite faster when I restart drinking. It also saves money.
Some of you doing it ?

I have not drunk anything yet this year, but I have not made it a rule.

Since I only started on 5th of Jan I will add February which is the month Belgian authorities advertise as the dry month here.

The French government refuses to officially promote Dry January. They almost did once and the wine lobby went ballistic when they heard about it, so they have learned their lesson.

The French government refuses to officially promote Dry January. They almost did once and the wine lobby went ballistic when they heard about it, so they have learned their lesson. As they should. Why should a small percentage of out-of-control alcoholics dictate how responsible drinkers conduct their lives?

I don't drink all that much in the course of the year so don't feel a need to make January dry. We did have a bit more wine than usual over the Christmas/New Year period because we had meals with visiting family members. Even so, we didn't drink too much.

I've never done Dry January because I don't drink enough to feel I need to dry out. When I lived in New Orleans I used to give up drinking for Lent because I drank more then and because it was easy to find a Lent-buddy even among the Protestant population.
That is admirable that you're going those extra 28 days, Whatagain. It shows more self discipline than people who pant like dogs for the end of January. Even though the rule with Lent is that you can have whatever you gave up on Sundays during Lent, I just did the whole period dry. Otherwise, what's the point?

Every month is dry for me. Only because I don't like the taste of alcohol and so I'm teetotal.

We don't really drink much. Even over Christmas we just had a couple of bottles of bucks fizz btween us. I'd probably have much more of a problem giving up coffee for a month tbh.

I limit myself to a large glass of red wine with my lunch. Long gone are my RAF days when I always boast that after a particularly stressful day I drank 12 pints one evening and then drove my wife to be home

I can understand how this could be beneficial and helpful, but I do not think I drink enough to worry about not participating. I have had one gin and tonic so far since New Years Eve. Now if there was a Dry July or August I perhaps might have to think about joining.

My wife and daughter joined me m. Both for the diet. Me out of fear of alcoholism. I don’t drink too often but I drink too much when I drink. And I saw alcoholism when I was young. Living in Charleroi… 🍷🍷🍷

A relative of mine drank a bottle of wine (or two) every evening for many years...until Liver function tests and a scan showed cirrhosis. She hasn't touched a drop for 5 years and the last scan showed a much better picture.
