One of the most enduring hits from Québec in France, is Daniel Lavoie's "Ils s'aiment."
English speaking North Americans may have heard the English version of this song, "Ridiculous Love" but apparently there is no video of it available.

Celine Dion before the insufferable international warbling. The video is slightly disturbing.

I saw the original stage production of Starmania in 1978 at the Palais des Congrès in Paris.

If you are wondering why I'm not weighing in here, I can't view clips etc on my computer (it has some kind of problem, and I don't have high speed so if I could it would take too long). By the way, Daniel Lavoie isn't originally Québécois - he is from Manitoba, where there are old French and French-speaking Métis communities, though he usually lives here now for career reasons.
Will get back to this, with younger and more "alternative" artists.

Note that we have not mentioned Roch Voisine, who is from Nouveau Brunswick. That must be the reason.

ah, I liked him a lot at some point. I had bought an album where he was trying all kinds of styles. It was interesting.

Hello, I just found the board today. Some great "traditional" stuff in this thread but I thought I'd like to show the "hip" side of the Quebec music scene. Some of the best young artists in Canada are coming out of Montreal these days. have a look...

quite a bit different than the last one but more of what Montreal has to offer...

same singer (Betty Bonifassi) with a different band. DJ Champion acts as a conductor for his band of many musicians...
I got more, but I'll wait to see if anyone gets mad at me first. BTW, I'm actually an old guy but I love modern music.

Those are great, imec. Particularly in France, we don't have access to those. And of course the English speaking artists from Québec are rarely exportable here.

and surely everyone's seen this - they were helped to become massively popular by the likes of Bowie and U2 who both promoted and accompanied them publicly on occasion. No collection of modern Montreal music would be complete without this...

Oh, yes, Arcade Fire is the exception that proves the rule -- very popular in France.

sorry, I can't help it, I just have to include one more fro m Arcade Fire. This is not an official video, but a very clever video put together by someone very clever. It's uncanny how well this song works with these film edits from Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in the West". Would love to know what the band would think of it...
