Who You Think I Am starring Juliette Binoche is indeed “not a bad movie”. She portrays a 50 year old divorced woman who falls madly in love/need with a much younger man who she met under false pretenses on the internet. A couple of plot twists near the end keep it interesting. While at first it seemed there were no subtitles on this French film - and no button in the DVD menu to turn on subtitles - a helpful guy at the library suggested we go into the menu of our DVD player to enable subtitles. We have never had to do this before and were skeptical, but sure enough, there was an option to select language for subtitles that was set to off. Switched it to English and voilà, subtitles appeared with no further tinkering with menus on DVD. Odd that this one movie is the only one this problem cropped up with. And we watch MOST films with subtitles, even English language films.

No pictures on mine Kimby. Sorry about the delay uploading the pics. They are there now. Internet went thready between posting the intro on mobile version and uploading the images on desktop version, all on my phone. Usually works like a charm.

One good thing about getting older: I literally could not remember the word except for its first letter. My usual starter word gave me three and I still had to think awhile before filling in the other letters on the 2nd guess.

(I wish that everyone would do the new puzzle first thing in the morning, instead of jumping on it eagerly just after midnight. On iPhone, the puzzle number doesn’t show until AFTER you’ve played the day’s game.)

You folks who do a new day’s word minutes into the new day in a vastly different time zone confuse me into clicking the spoiler on a puzzle I HAVEN’T DONE YET! And I probably would have done pretty well as my typical starter word shares 3 letters with the solution.
Now I will have to wait till tomorrow’s puzzle. Actually day after tomorrow, since it’s only 7:40 pm Tuesday here.

My Mom said that a woman will lose one tooth for each child she gives birth to. An old wives tale maybe, but Mom lost three teeth and had three daughters.
How to explain my tooth loss, me with no kids?

I just went to the dentist because a tooth was a bit sensitive. It turns out there is a cyst underneath, not much bone to hold the tooth. Ah, the joys of aging. Anyway, I have to get a conebeam x-ray, then probably get an implant since the tooth is in front. I am not going to re-read Kimby's posts about her implants because I understand that implants in the upper jaw are more painful than in the lower one. I did not find any part of the implant process painful except sticking a needle in my vein to draw out platelets to mix with the bone graft. Well, also writing the huge checks to the oral surgeon and the dentist!

Having seen the documentary The Real Charlie Chaplin inspired me to check out The Great Dictator from the library. He seems to have easily made the leap from silent films to talkies. I could also see his influence on other actors, including Oliver Hardy and even Gene Kelly in Singing in the Rain.

But reply numbers do show on a phone! When I look at anyport on my phone, it looks exactly like it does on my laptop, only smaller, of course. Only if you switch from mobile version to desktop version. Which is too tiny to read without zooming and panning. I use the desktop version only for adding images to posts. Otherwise mobile version is the way to go as it’s far more readable.

Finished The End of Drum Time & recommend it to the skies -- it's a novel loosely built around a real person & real events, and has all the tension, all the what-happens-next?, and all the limpidly good writing anyone could want in a book. Bixa, what is it about? Where is it set? When is it set? Your review is entirely free of details I would use to decide whether to read a book. Spill!

A rare non-fiction read for Ms. Kimby, though the Mister reads non-fiction almost exclusively.
FLIGHT PATHS subtitled: How a Passionate and Quirky Group of Pioneering Scientists Solved the Mystery of Bird Migration.
Each chapter explores a different scientist or group of scientists and the methods they used to see the unseeable: the millions of feathered creatures that make biannual flights of thousands of miles between their winter retreats and summer breeding grounds.
Lots of serendipity in discovering that radar could track birds (and weather!) in addition to warplanes, and that pointing a telescope at the moon could allow bird counters to record numbers of birds flying past that small part of the sky and extrapolate to come up with numbers flying over a whole region.
I had recently installed Merlin’s Bird ID app on my iPhone - what a great tool! - and found it most interesting to learn that what is used to ID bird sounds is actually PICTURES of the sound made by birds, i.e. sonographs!
Computers have a much harder time learning to match sounds to species, but the visual representation of a bird’s call is easily matched to the sonagraphs in the data banks.

ANOTHER Oscar nominated film on the Kimby’s small screen last night, Triangle of Sadness directed by Palme d’Or 2022 winner Ruben Östlund, who also directed Square and Force Majeur. www.imdb.com/title/tt7322224/Triangle of Sadness means much more than just the furrows between your brows. This film has three chapters, and there’s also a love triangle of sorts, as well. Chapter 1 is about a couple of young “influencers” and their superficial world, Chapter 2 reminded me of The Menu as it takes the golden couple on a (freebie!) cruise full of pretentious wealthy folks, and Chapter 3 deposits a half-dozen of the yacht’s passengers and crew on a deserted island in a Lord of the Flies meets CBS Survivors mash-up. The ending is ambiguous on purpose, making each viewer reflect on what they think happened or should have happened. It’s a long movie (147 minutes) but a fun ride. (PS, it features the best cinematic barfing I’ve ever seen!)
