The Empire strikes back...in Oz we resented the way England would send scouts out to commonwealth countries and cherry-pick the best players to represent England.

I know that feeling! It is easy to start feeling that you are unable to cope with the current work world. Ignore those nasty thoughts...you are not only a skilful worker but also a kind and generous man and an asset to any company. Good luck and stay positive!

They have some very good players but are inconsistent. It seems they keep their best for matches against India.(Nothing to back this up by way of stats.)

That's amazing, Tod! I remember you were the same last year too.
The Southern Aurora doesn't come north enough most times, I've only seen the tail in the distance roughly 100km SE of Adelaide. Halley's Comet parked over my back yard for ages, but I was living in rural light free area then.

When you consider that the subject of the weather is the top discussion point for the last few days......(yawn). Here are some topics to spark up a bit of life-support 1 Why do US citizens believe that their country is the best in the world when it patently is not.
2 Why do some UK citizens think they are still in the Empire and expect deferential attention.
3 Why do Aussies make a joke about everything, and shorten names and other words.

My lotus tattoo on my heel has faded, the colour has bled a bit - lost the sharp lines and the skin is now crepe-y. I look at it and think of all the places it has seen with me and the adventures we have had together. I got it to mark my 60th birthday, now I am looking for a small dragon tattoo for my recent 80th one. I will get the first rejuvenated as well.

Still flooding over East as the rivers disgorge themselves down stream.
My state on this Summer's first day? Rain, fog, hail and snow in the higher parts. I grieve for a lost climate.

I am not a foodie, but oh the music! That beautiful gamelan playing in the sparkling way native to Bali and the bamboo flute following the dancer's movements as she uses her whole body including eyes and fingertips to tell the story.
"If music be the food of love, play on."
PS Thanks Kerouac2.

When asked who the greatest Russian Generals were, Napoleon is said to have replied, "General December and General January."
Let's hope that " Field Marshall Global Warming" can infiltrate the battlefields, cities and hamlets and overcome the historic advantage. If Putin wants a Hot War he forgets he is not Napoleon.

Most Ozzies will check any shoes, boots or slippers looking for any of our vast array of deadly creatures that may have taken up residence within.
Then you put on a cardigan you left on the veranda overnight and get bitten by the red-back spider hiding in a sleeve. (my grandfather pre WW11)

bjd nowhere did I infer it was amusing, in fact it is a disaster which is just going on and on. I was noting that the road rules have carried over to water traffic. It is not only building rules but greedy land owners and councils who will sell land on floodplains.
Fumobici...widen your reading? East Coast has been flooded since February. La Nina has hit 5 times and everyone is worried re availability of food, prices astronomical etc, Thousands homes gone. CBD Melbourne had 66mm today in under an hour.

I'm pleased that you take notice of our weather, Mick. ATM we are starting to get flooding in some rivers in South Oz as the swollen rivers in the east are backing up. The things I have noticed on the TV news are the huge number of people getting around in canoes, kayaks, rubber duckies and motor boats. I saw a couple of lads stop at a traffic "STOP" sign showing just above the the water, then paddle on when the intersection was clear.

This is getting like a disaster movie. It has continued with rain and storms taking up most of the East Coast from Queensland in the north to Tasmania in the south. Flood waters are covering much of those towns and properties for as far as the drone can see. The inundated lands are the food basket for the country . Food like fruits and vegetables, eggs, meat and meat products and our grains are going to be very rare...and expensive. Many towns have been underwater for months and shops and offices are having major communication problems. If only it would stop raining!

They can always do what happened in Oz...quite easy in fact! Your Opposition leader goes to the King, says "they are unable to form a government. We have the numbers...give us a go!" and the King says, " But is that fair? Won't the people hate me for ever?" You reassure HM that it is all ridgy-didge (Oz for 'above board') and the people will love you and you can call an election ASAP and win it.
Just a few more upheavals and it will be "Game Over"

You soon learn! I just make it on the National Pension with a few luxuries now and then.
The price of cigarettes (cheapest) is $Aud 75 for a pack of 40...2-3 days supply. I have stopped smoking for 10 days now so will have some "play money" as a reward.

Trouble is...Oz has copied all the "hear, hears" and so-called theatricals. Just get on with the job of saving/running the country which is enough for you to worry about at the moment.
PS are the "hear hears" just to show you are more or less awake and know where you are.

My mother's father was born in Australia of Oz parents. He rose to be an engineer in the Water Board which supplied the city of Sydney with water. He was very high up in his job and was one of very few who could manage the supplies. Trouble was, his surname was "Beckhaus". Off to the city Alien Camp leaving wife and child at home. It didn't take long before overflowing drains and lack of clean water made people realise that the person who organised the work gangs, water testers etc was among the incarcerated.
Arrangements were made and official permission was given for him to leave the camp after 7am and be back by 6pm. What a farce...I don't think they even considered that they were putting the city's water supply into the hands of a person they deemed the enemy.

students...young women. They don't want to give up the veil as they said that in class and practice the teachers and male students took them more seriously and treated them as equals, whereas by slipping it back over the crown of the head (risky in public) that showed they were immature and flighty. I wonder what they think now? Both the Iranian women who participated live in France and both said the French celebrities cutting their hair in support of Iranian women were of no interest and no help. One of them said that she had been active in Iranian resistance for years and none of these French women had been willing to even sign a petition in the past. I’d like to think they’ll succeed but..... Timing. Sisters, that is what you have to get right.

BTW for non-Brits...The Coronation is not an awards night trophy or an affirmation of his position. It is a solemn vow made by the monarch, in the presence of the Lords who owe fealty to him, the leaders of the Church and the rest of representatives of the British community, in which the King undertakes to follow a certain path in life. This vow is so personal between God and King that while it takes place a canopy is held above the Monarch for privacy while they do the anointing.
PS I hope to see the Republic of Australia within this lifetime. The above is completely irrelevant this millennium. Still I treat any others' ceremonies and beliefs with respect

He has good genes and is careful with his diet. I think he presents as much older because of his fuddy-duddy mannerisms and speech. Unless he dies as the result of violence or sudden acute illness I am afraid he is going to be with us for a few years yet.
