During Easter week, the cathedral of Gap, France has been exposing a wax sculpture by the British artist Peter Fryer. The sculpture belongs to the art collection of billionaire François Pinault, who has loaned it to the cathedral of Gap at the request of Cardinal Jean-Michel di Falco. Cardinal di Falco says that he is shocked by the indifference of Christians to the manner of the death of Christ, as though nailing someone to some pieces of wood is an acceptable way to die. It is such an ingrained part of the doctrine that people do not even think about it. Therefore, the sculpture is meant to shock and it does indeed do that. It depicts the Christ on an electric chair. Nevertheless, a certain number of the faithful have been horrified by this depiction and have called it inadmissible. Apparently, they are a small minority. Most people with faith seem to have understood the message.
