What small child would not be overwhelmed by this, unless the little jerk was a health freak? Here's how to do it!

We can buy slices of cakes in garish colors like that from itinerant vendors at fiestas. I never eat it. However, the cake in your photo displays far greater creativiy than what we can find here.

Kids are only kids once. I never did stuff like that for them and now they are older I'm ashamed of myself they missed out. One wanted homemade carrot and walnut cake every year and Tiramisu for the other. So wrong. Might do one of those cakes for their weddings ... as a nice suprise wedding gift!!!

It's not wrong if it was your KIDS that wanted it, is it ? Doing it for them regardless of your preference(s) is what being a parent is all about.

But how could they know they wouldn't prefer the toxic rainbow cake if it was never offered?

I'm like mockchoc's kids - I don't think I'd have liked that as a littlie.

My mother was great about decorating cakes and cupcakes. Even though I didn't like to eat those silver beadies when she put them on cakes, I thought she was the best mother in the world for doing so.

What was the deal with those silver beads? My mother never used them but I remember crunching on those awful things elsewhere.

They look so rich and exotic. Well, they do if you're a child.

Mockchoc, I was kind of like your kids growing up. I was pretty young when I wanted to ditch the kiddie birthday parties alltogether and just have my parents take me out to dinner at a restaurant.

gringalais, looks like your mother taught you to eat well.
My eldest son asked for us to take him to a very nice Japanese restaurant for his birthday since he was I think about 8 yrs old. The trouble was if he brought a friend along they weren't game to eat almost anything there.

Personally, I was a totally anti-child child. I never wanted to do kiddie stuff.

That cake is BRILLIANT!
We used to make marble cake when I was a kid and I liked it as you got blue poo the next day.

Personally, I was a totally anti-child child. I never wanted to do kiddie stuff. I was like that a lot too And yeah, my parents are excellent cooks and we were brought up always eating a wide variety of foods - except, of course legumes and what my mom calls "bumpy meats" (i.e. sausage, salame, etc.) because she doesn't like those foods.
