We'll be visiting our native land for about 3 weeks, and of course, favorite foods will play a big roll (sic) in the visit. Among the specialties we are looking forward to are: •Proper sour Jewish Caraway Rye Bread •Pastrami sandwiches on that rye, with hot, spicy mustard and •Garlicky Kosher pickles. •Dunkin Donuts •Good hot dogs, with taste and a casing with snap. (Mexican hot dogs here are uniformly dreadful.) •Brisket pot roast with gravy. •Connecticut style hot buttered lobster rolls. Fried whole-belly clams. (In photo.) •Really good Italian food, and pizza! •Decent bagels. I'm still thinking about the rest.

Keep drinking a lot of liquids to make up for the drool that you are losing in anticipation!

MORE... Actual, real Chinese food, especially Sichuan style. Example: Baby Pork Wontons in Spicy Red Oil Sauce at Chengdu 1 in Cedar Grove, NJ.

The word is out also that soft-shelled crabs are in season. <SMACK. DROOL> I'll be happy to get some at least once, although it may be difficult to access, transportation wise. I like them sauteed in butter, with parsley and a squeeze of lemon. Or fried and served on a crusty bread roll. Or with garlic over linguine. Or fried, with tartar sauce and a lemon wedge.

Don, is Pepsi the right drink to go with clams? Baz, the drink cups may say "Pepsi", but the contents could be whatever. Personally, I go for birch beer whenever I'm in a place like that in New England.

Is there anything that you will miss from Mexico while you are away, or will the trip not be long enough for that?
