AnyPort began with a very small but dedicated group of "testers". These wonderful people came on to a completely empty forum, posted all kinds of interesting stuff, then gave feedback so that the forum could officially open three days later.
Since AnyPort is only three months old, none of this will be ancient and cobwebby. Still, I thought it might be interesting to look at some of the kick-off threads. This doesn't cover every single board, nor every one of the kind and talented members who made idea into reality -- you all can rummage and discover that on your own.
Casimira took a wide-awake look at insomnia.
Bixa cut and folded.
It's hardly surprising that the first funny item posted was a Bombay movie by Palesa.
AnyPort's opening coincided with Superbowl -- given brief mention on the Sports Page.
Gringalais shared useful and interesting information on South America.
Jazz provided the first eye-witness travel report for Europe with her lushly replete look at the bazaar in Istanbul.
And for Asia, Spindrift gave us stunning views of Nepal.
Kerouac kicked off Ports of Call by telling how his travels began.
In Post Cards, Spindrift's profusely illustrated account of the Nepali horse-boy remains poignant.
In The Library, Bixaorellana started a conversation about family origins.
And in her long-winded way, in After Dinner she shared her encounters with new kinds of food.
From the very beginning, Screening Room and Change the Station showed the range of tastes and interest to be found among the membership. AuntieAnnie asked what music revitalized, and Casimira took a look at Booker.
The first recipe posted was appropriate for such a melange of members that make up Any Port in a Storm: cassoulet.
