If instead of being taken where you want to go in Any Port, you are getting the message: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Could not connect to data server. Please try again.
If this message persists, please check our Server Status Page ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a problem with the host board which is being investigated right now, so just wait & it will get fixed.

Thank you, thought it was ol' Luddite here breaking someone else's computer.

How long has it been going on for ? I haven't had any problems getting in, but it has seemed slower on here lately.

I don't know. It only happened to me late this afternoon. Seems to be working okay now.
Any time I've noticed Any Port being slow, everything on my computer was slow also. Have you ever noticed that whenever a browser or anti-virus program is getting ready to update, your computer slows down?

No, I mean slow as in not so many posts, or movement on branches. If people are having problems acessing the site, this might account for it. Otherwise, we're obviously all just boring bastards. QED.

There have ? Fair enough, it just seems in the last couple of days whenever I've logged on, posts haven't moved that much within the areas I look.

I have no problems logging-in here. I'm out a lot this week that's why I can't post more.

I found there to be many more posts this past week. Since I log on about 5 hours after most of you, the recent 80 posts is the clear indicator. For the last week or so, the most recent 80 posts had all been posted today. This hadn't happened often before.

I am not singling you out, but this makes a point about any forum containing more than meets the eye. I have a bad habit of clicking on the posts that show on the main page, then forgetting to check the rest of their boards. It's shocking what I miss that way. Also, by nosing into all the boards, I realize that their subjects can interest me much more than I'd thought. And yeah, there are days when it seems everyone went to the sleep at their keyboards, but certainly not lately. This is a good opportunity for me to nag encourage all the new members to please start posting. Forums are emphatically a case of the more, the merrier, and I eagerly await you all joining in.

There have ? Fair enough, it just seems in the last couple of days whenever I've logged on, posts haven't moved that much within the areas I look. I used to do that as well...look within certain favorite areas. One day I clicked on the Most Recent 80 Posts and found that I'd missed about 70% of what had been written that day. Now, I automatically scan through 80 posts before I go to any particular thread or branch. Most Recent 80 posts is also the easiest way to get a sense of the 'mood' of the day on the forum. If 60 of 80 posts are the Word game,...errr...perhaps people haven't reached their creative zenith yet (this has never happened!) Certain threads in obscure areas can be come very vital...debates can be going on, an issue which could become ugly is instantly obvious, what you think of as a 'boring' area may have something you want to contribute to etc. I like it as well for the use of my time. You get the finest 'bang for your buck'...If I have little time to be here, then I know, within the time of the scan (about 5 minutes) the most interesting threads.

Oh yeah, something I've been meaning to ask for a while ...
How do I change the background for the board(s) ? Certainly on here, and maybe some of the others, the colour scheme is such that I can't really read the sub heading titles just above the top post (not the ones right at the top of the page, the ones that show where I am in linear form).
Whenever I post like I am now at work, the main colour scheme is grey-ish with a white background, but I don't know if this affects the ability to see pic / images posted.
Any ideas ?

You just go to 'profile' and then 'modify my profile' and you will find a list of different skins that you can use. As soon as you confirm a different skin, it will change to that one whenever you log in.

It is all covered in Port Authority. How to set Your Profile to what you want including the skin displayed. This is to make it easy to choose a skin. For people who like using a skin with a picture background, but are bothered by not being able to see the Menu and navigating links at the top of the page, simply left-click and roll you cursor across that part as though you were highlighting. It will give the writing a "negative" effect that makes it easy to read. Usually you can also scroll the page to a blanker space in order to see the menu clearly. For instance, I am using the Brixham skin and the menu is invisible against the buildings at the top of the hill. But if I scroll the page slightly so the menu is against the sky, it's quite readable.

Chairs. How come I get a different background (well, lack of, really) here at work ? It must be something to do with access restrictions, seeing as I don't have the buttons to make an OP, or modify or use 'extras' like italics, bold, quote etc. etc. ....

Didn't you say you couldn't see photos at work? That would means that you can't see any background with a photo in it either, just the complementary color scheme.

I can see some photos here. Just to test, I clicked into the Brighton Picture thread, and I could see all the pics Tilly (I think it was her) posted. The background I'm looking at now is just plain white.
In all honesty, I'd much prefer just a plain white background like I see now, but I'd also appreciate the ability to make and edit posts, funnily enough. I'm sure this is PURELY a personal view however ...... !
