This NYT article from 1897 about Canadian music piracy is awfully familiar sounding -- search-and-replace "Canadian" with "Swedish" and "post office" with "ISP" and you get...

Ha ~ I didn't know Swedes were the swashbucklers of the European music industry.
There are quite a few music and video sites I can't access online. I get notices saying something to the effect that they've discerned I'm in a country known for media piracy.

Interesting, HW. I was most struck, though, by the comment made by the poster with the Spanish name, "Buscador": You, and others like you have made my time in Asia far less boring.
Um, maybe he needs to step away from the computer & get out & about more.

LOL! Bixa, it's a site that's used mainly by expats here, a few of whom know each other. I'm the OP, BTW.
I believe your conclusion is about right.

I recognized your great avatar, HW! I can definitely see the value of a forum for expats in a particular country. But, as I've seen here, there's always the phenomenon of foreigners banding together & completely insulating themselves from the host country. Such a shame.
