The screen protector causes a parallax shift that makes it so I have to be careful with editing every post made on my phone. Also, my touches have to be very deliberate, lest words be missing many letters.

In a world full of laptops, why do people use phones to type when they're not forced to?

In a world full of laptops, why do people use phones to type when they're not forced to? They think wearing glasses is cool once they have ruined their eyesight.

Ha! Good point. But even with perfect eyesight, the enjoyment of images on a laptop is vastly better, as are experiences such as reading a newspaper. Mick, you used to have a computer. I know this because you always had some reason for not using it, which I assume boils down to not wanting to be tied to a desk in order to use it. Admittedly, you can't put a laptop in your back pocket as you can with a phone, but the laptop gives you the big screen experience with enormous portability. I can't tell other people how to spend their money, but I can guarantee that phone addicts will find their worlds positively expanded if they migrate to a larger screen with attached keyboard.

I do indeed have one but it’s in my little office in the garden and it’s perishing cold in there.

My laptop isn't windows 11 compatible....
We are trying to change our web provider. We still don't have superfast broadband despite the cables being laid 2 years ago. I want to keep our house phone but we will have to pay to have our house phone adapted to use via the new fibre network. Only a few companies will allow us to keep our phone number. Outreach (bt) have said that they will no longer provide landline services (not sure when it will stop)
Sky have no plans to provide superfast broadband in our area and their service atm is appalling. Lots of scrolling when we watch tv, also the web drops out all the time...

Afraid not. These days I have a very little house and no space for it.

My laptop isn't windows 11 compatible.... Not a problem. My laptop is windows 11 compatible, so I went ahead and loaded it. I don't think I lasted a whole week before my hatred made me get that crap off my device and happily return to windows 10. These days I have a very little house and no space for it. Get a laptop. Years ago, when my desktop computer was reaching the end of its very long life, PatrickLondon suggested a laptop. I was totally against the idea, having used a borrowed one years earlier. I did not like the angle on which it had to be viewed, nor the hateful touchpad in lieu of a mouse. Finally, the desktop could not go a step further. I wanted to buy the replacement in the US, so a laptop was far easier to get down here than a desktop. Once I started using it, I was converted. Right now I have a 15" and a 14" and despite the laptop functioning as my tv, it turns out I prefer the 14". One thing I continue to reject is the touchpad. I have a nice "works everywhere" mouse connected to the laptop via bluetooth. As far as space, when the laptop is not on your lap, it can be tucked into the side of the cushion of your special chair.

I have a laptop too. Never use the touchpad because it's a pain in the neck but bought a mouse at the same time as the laptop. My only quibble about laptops vs desktops is the smaller, wider screen so it's less pleasant for looking at pictures.
Not sure what you mean by a "viewing angle", Bixa. You can move the screen to whatever angle suits you.
We also have a very small house and I use my computer on the kitchen/dining table and just close it up and put it on a chair when I'm not using it.

Bjd, when I used someone elses laptop over 20 years ago, it was set up on a table. I was being extra careful because it wasn't mine & didn't realize the angle could be adjusted.

This morning. Husband. "I'm going to move things around in the box room" (used as a dressing room). Goes upstairs. Puts all my shoes and boots on the floor in our bedroom. Moves the 'Drysoon' electric airer in front of the window blocking access to my clothes rail. Comes downstairs to get the dyson and hoovers the floor just in the box room. Comes downstairs. Empties hoover and puts it away. Done. 'You'll have to sort out your shoes' Wife (me) goes upstairs. Sorts out shoes. Puts them back where they were. Gets duster, dusts, cleans all the mirrors, Gets dyson...vacuums hall, stairs, landing, bedrooms...comes down to empty dyson...vacuums all downstairs rooms..gets dusters..dusts downstairs, vacuums again. Empties dyson and puts it away. Upstairs, cleans bathroom puts washing away, goes into box room. Puts everything back as it was before husband moved it all this morning. *sigh* Husband on phone to eldest. 'I do most of the housework'......

Does it bother anyone besides me when people say they “got a pit in my stomach” instead of the more proper “bad feeling IN the pit of my stomach”? I see or hear this corrupted use more and more often these days and it sets my teeth on edge!

I haven't heard that yet, but I can see how it would make you crazy. You'd think that people would wonder about the mystery "pit" (avocado? peach?) and question what they're saying.

My pet peeve has a silver line.
It seems I have more and more difficulties to digest chocolate. I had a dame blanche (3 balls of Camilla ice chocolate and crème fraîche) and threw it up half an hour after.
Can be a help for my diabetes…

When I see a nose ring I wonder why they don’t also wear a bell at their neck like cows.
