This week, I decided to make flapjacks for the first time. hopefully it will last a few days so I don't need to buy snacks.
I also made some semolina halva. will report on that one.

Why would flapjacks be snacks? Aren't they a type of pancake?
I don't eat snacks on a daily basis but confess to snacking with drinks if I have friends over - nuts, homemade dips, olives, that sort of thing.
But I dislike mindless snacking. Some say "grazing" is healthier than eating three meals, but I find meals at defined times works better for me.

Mmmmm ~~ semolina halvah. Can't wait to hear about that. I hugely recommend my cruelly ignored whole wheat muffins or cookies. These are completely foolproof. You can leave out the soaking part if you wish, for instance. Do incorporate my suggestions, though, for enhanced taste and nutrition. You can also substitute coffee for the water or add a little instant coffee for a molasses-y taste. Also, I take the cookies off the sheet, let them cool, then put them on a rack & slide them back into the oven for hyper-crispness. That's not necessary, but I like them that way. This is truly guilt-free, healthful snack food that can stand in for breakfast, as well.

Ill try that, bixa!
I snack only when in the office or travelling, K. I have the eating habits of a hobbit. Breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch, etc etc...So I have been eating oatcakes/ricecakes, etc from the healthfood shop in order not to eat crisps all the time and now I am experimenting making my own. I need to find more savoury ideas, though. dried fruit slices are excellent.
Bix, I took a greek recipe of semolina halva, but used the fine semolina as opposed to the coarse one and the result was delicious, but too gooey. had to be eaten with a spoon. I also put only a quarter of the sugar requested in the recipe, and added two handfuls of raisins.
