Thanks, Tod! Darla was so shiny black as a pup that it was hard to get a good photo of her. But every time she molted (or whatever that's called in dogs), she got more white hairs. At first they were underneath, then finally she got the white eyebrows & muzzle. There may be some schnauzer in her very mixed ancestry.
Kerouac -- just shows what you know. I was arriving, not leaving, when I took those pics.
Sounds as though your cat really kept you in line, Htmb!

My son's guinea pigs. They are the gentlest little creatures ever. One does squeak quite a bit though. Here they are in their bedding area of the hutch:

Love the composition of this, with the old pilings heading out to sea and the shore and the trees. Big dog!

Thanks, Lizzy. She weighs 55 pounds, but thinks she's a lapdog.

Thank you. She's a sweet dog, but boy is she neurotic, especially for a large dog.
First day on vacation and she suddenly starts shivering dramatically like she's sitting in the veterinarian's waiting room, or something. I thought she was having a seizure, but soon realized that if I distracted her the shivering would stop. Leave it to me to "inherit" a dog that has panic attacks. She's still being clingy, but lots of exercise and time to get familiar with the place have helped. Of course, on the drive back I'm sure there will be heavy panting and drooling in the car after the first 20 minutes. Sigh.

Great photo htmb. Our Jebidiah would have never sat so pretty for a picture by the lake, our picture would have shown me being dragged into the water!
Hopefully with your calmness and understanding her panic and shivers will subside and lessen in future.

Thanks, mich. Maybe when I get around to adding to my cedar key thread I'll post a pic or two of the dog taking off into the Gulf and not caring if she dragged me in with her. It's the Labrador blood. ;-)
When I was a kid our neighbors down the road had a very nice new Cadillac. They learned not to leave the windows rolled down when our lab took a swim in our pond and then a leisurely nap in the back seat of their car.

I would love to see that htmb!
I watched a youtube video this weeks showing a cat pouncing on a frozen pond as there were fish darting back and forth under the ice. Our Jeb would have not come in all day if he had ever encountered that, in fact, we joked that he probably would not have slept through the night for wanting to get back out the first sign of daylight. Indeed, labs enjoy the water! Your lab was smart finding a shaded spot for his afternoon nap!

Ivy is sweet. My parents had/have a springer spaniel. They said Nellie has been their "best dog ever".

Ooh, what a fun thread and adorable pets! Just discovered it, so here is my contribution. He's Jambo, of course after the Swahili for Hello. When I adopted him from a shelter as a kitten he looked like the stray cats I had seen in Mombasa, Kenya - skinny and long-legged, kind of spidery. "I found these for you. They're fake." "No more pictures!"

Jambo is beautiful, Diane! Cats and dogs certainly are different creatures. It looks like darling Lilly is here to stay. The Florida weather appeals to her much more than the cold, ice, and snow in NYC.

I went to meet the beagle-mix, two year old dog my son has adopted. He is getting the dog through a group that places rescue dogs with inmates at the local jail. The dogs live with, and are trained by the inmates for a period of time before they are released to their adoptive owners. My son has two more weeks before he takes the sweet dog home following a graduation ceremony. The program is called "Paws on Parole."

Cute, Bixa. Is the Pooh killer your new pup?
Last week my son locked his beagle mix in the bathroom rather than the crate because he felt bad about locking him up. The dog jumped up on the counter and ate a whole tube of apricot soap, AND managed to lock the bathroom door from the inside.
Today, sonny boy ran to the grocery store for a few minutes, but left the dog loose in the house. He returned to find the dog was just fine....no problems. He had managed to open the front door and was sitting OUTSIDE.
Looks like he really did learn some skills while in prison.

Oh, that's a hoot!
Yes, the Pooh killer is Petra, who is very oddly made, but cute as all get-out nonetheless.

We went to the big park today. We'd just arrived & the dogs were still on their leashes when something stopped Darla in her tracks. The cute puppy was quite taken with Darla, but she only had eyes for the thing, the thing she has wanted for so long."Look at it! There it is! How did she catch it? I never caught one!""Why isn't she eating it? I would sooooo eat it!"

The Beagle woke us at 4.30 this morning howling at the foot of the stairs. Grandson and/or son in law forgot to put him to bed last night......
