The sound of the beagle howling at 4:30 in the morning must have been jarring!

Though I tried to prevent it, this happy little guy completely took over my sofa. His tail is blurry in the first picture because it was wagging very fast.

Who is the luckiest, you or him??

Him, of course. He was just visiting for the weekend while my son, his owner, participated in a fishing tournament. He is a very sweet dog and has come a long way in his training. He was a rescue pup and was placed with an inmate at the local minimum security facility for his initial training. He's affectionate to a fault and, in my opinion, needs to learn a few more socialization skills. However, he's completely housebroken and, other than thinking he's a 25 pound lap dog and lounging all over my furniture, was a pleasure to have visit.

Everybody, I would like to introduce you to "Mijo" - short for "plat mijoté" (a long-simmered stew). Where do these names come from?! Anyway, I adopted her from the old lady upstairs, whose great-grandchildren bought her from one of those horrible pet shops. She's two years old now, and is a Yorkshire-Bichon mix. I suspect that there's some kangaroo blood in there, as well, since she jumps so much. All my thanks to bixa and others for the wonderful tutorials!!!

She might have had a recent bath as well, because many little dogs like to eat poop out of the gutter and wear it on their faces.

Thanks everybody - I'll get more photos up soon, since I've finally got the necessary know-how. Mijo eats pretty much everything, no matter where she finds it, but Dieu merci - she will not eat poop. She always pees on the piles that other dogs have left laying around, though.

My Molly is not well. For a week she has been bringing up her meal a few hours after she eats it so getting little nutrition although she seems bright enough and drinking OK. We have tried ordinary dog food, chicken, scrambled egg and none of it stays down which, in our new little house, is a bit of a pain.
Took her to vet last night and she has a temperature so seems to have some sort of infection affecting her stomach. £77 later she has special food 3 times a day, some liquid we have to give her through a syringe an hour before she eats, antibiotics and something to rehydrate her. Let's hope it stays down.

Poor little girl! Hope she feels better soon. The fact that she's being rehydrated should help keep her from throwing up. With people (just another form of mammal), the vomiting caused by illness or reaction to a medication will eventually cause dehydration, which causes more nausea and vomiting -- a vicious circle.

Being the extremely kind, sensitive and caring person that she is, my oldest daughter, H, and her children, my granddaughters, spent today together. They hugged, loved, and petted their 16 year old family dog, gradually helping him on his way to the great beyond. Later, they dug his grave in the backyard, and held a little ceremony to mark his passing. H has given me permission to post her photo. It's not gruesome at all. You cannot really see the dog in the photo, but because many of us have lost our beloved pets, I've placed the picture as a spoiler so you can decide to look or not. On the one hand, I think the picture is a wonderful capture of what was sure to be a very sensitive and sad moment, but the funny side of my brain is also wondering what the remaining dog and the chicken might have been thinking.

I am so sad for them! That is lovely the way your daughter made a cuddly nest for the dear pooch. I do wonder what the other dog is thinking, although it's probably aware that its companion is gone. Was the grave covered in front of the kids? I would not know how to handle that part of the funeral.

I haven't asked. There's a lot I just don't want to know right now because it's too difficult for me personally. However, knowing them, it was all done together as a family.
H is wonderful about teaching her children about death being a part of life, while also allowing them to decide to participate, or not, when faced with something unpleasant.
When my cat died, they were the ones who took care of her burial, too.

Yes, I can imagine you don't want to dwell on details.
It is truly a marvelous photograph of an important landmark in their lives.

Two of them don't fit, unless one is Oliver, who is skinny but was outside. It wasn't comfortable for them, but it was The Lap.
