I've always liked my windows XP system, it's worked well for me and I understand it well. Just recently we've bought a new computer with Vista on it. I'm still trying to get used to it. I can't imagine ever having to use 640GB of memory, how would you ever do that? Any tips or ideas about the Vista system would be much appreciated. p.s. yes, I'm still using my 'old' computer right now, which has been placed in my upstairs office.

Just wait until Vista gives way to Windows 7. Vista is not good.
At my office, we just changed computers, and even though they have a Vista logo on them, they loaded XP into the machines, which is what a lot of customers demand.

I have Vista and I haven't had that much trouble with it. It does have a lot of crap loaded in as far as programs, etc. The best thing I could advise to do is get on PC World magazine site as they have a lot of tips for Vista, how to get it to run faster and also how to get rid of a bunch of add-ons that you probably don'' use or even want. The first thing I did was get rid of any programs you don't use and or don't want. That seemed to help a lot for me. Also, I use Norton Internet Security and Firewall, and not Windows Defender. I have read that Defender just screws everything up so I prefer not to use it. I also set the Microsoft Windows updates so that they do not automatically update. They will be downloaded and then I decide what I want and don't want. Otherwise, Windows sneaks things in. I do not use the internal backup. I do my backups on DVD/CD and also on a external backup drive.
BTW I have been reading about Windows 7 and I have heard that if you have XP don't even try to udate it with Windows 7. Hope this helps.

My laptop (which I am using now) has Vista and it was worked all right for me, but there is absolutely nothing better about it than XP -- just a few unnecessary bells and whistles.
Windows 7 comes out in October, and I will be avidly reading about whether it is worth it or not.

My son has had a Vista for a while now, and he quite likes it. So far, I haven't had any trouble with it. Although it does tend to block quite a lot of things out. (for safety reasons), but you can easily get passed that if needed.
Yeah, I'm also waiting to see what this new Windows 7 will be like.
