I miss chexbres, particularly our afternoons eating frites and drinking beer at l'Ecir next to her apartment or else drinking wine at Maison Peret on rue Daguerre.
Going to L'Ecir made me look it up because she thought at first that it was called Le Cir, but I found out that the Ecir was the wind that blows through the Massif Central, since every wind seems to have a name -- mistral, tramontane, scirocco, foehn and others...

I'm confused as to how you could "miss" someone whose death was posted as a Petty Personal Trauma.

It has to be said that Kerouac was a good and loyal friend to Chexbres.
People sometimes choose to put posts in unexpected threads for their own reasons.

We all fight our battles our own ways. I also put in petty traumas my health problems which nearly cost my life some 2 years ago. I would not see another place to put one's death than that thread.
Bizarre, vous avez dit bizarre ?
Kerouac has always been somebody whose loyalty in friendship is total. Doesn't take a genius to see that.
I alsi remember Chexbres being so out of her mind when Kerouac was in hospital, years and years ago.

I'm confused as to how you could "miss" someone whose death was posted as a Petty Personal Trauma. Wait a minute! I don’t remember that. I scurried over to Petty Personal Traumas and re-read the whole thread from 6 months before chexbres’ last posting on there to the present and didn’t see anything about it. Maybe my speed-reading (skimming) skills are slipping, but I’m feeling traumatized that Any Port lost has another regular poster, and there’s only going to be more of that in the future. Can someone please fill me in or point me to the announcement?’

Any Port lost has another regular poster, and there’s only going to be more of that in the futur Maybe it is time to set up a method for notifying one active member to insert a notice announcing the late member's death. Anyone else can notify or add to the information but one person should be responsible for informing the group.

People sometimes choose to put posts in unexpected threads for their own reasons.I guess it's something I'm just going to have to accept but have difficulty doing it whenever it comes up. Just as I have had to learn how to accept many similar posts over the years. I'm sure I have done the same over the years. My issue with this particular post was how casually it was posted. It was kind of just stuck in there almost as an afterthought.

Thank you htmb for the link to the obit. She sounds like a very interesting person, and some of you were actually lucky enough to know her in real life.
Any Port’s profile stats for chexbres state no new posts since late 2017. Is that possible?

It’s very possible chexbres’ last post was in 2017, though I’m not positive. She may have deleted a few later posts. I remember she sometimes became extremely agitated over seemingly mundane things and, more and more frequently, dealing with forums was just too frustrating for her. She was faced with a multitude of health issues for the years I knew her, but had a lot of internal strength that kept her going.

Because Any Porters seem so young in spirit, it always takes me aback when I realize many of us are nearing our expiration dates… But Kimby, you know how we all keep using stuff that is months...nay...years past its expiry date. I have enough preservatives in my body to maintain cellular integrity and, as you know, I am a 'seasoned' traveller.

It occurred to me as I descended the stairs in my house that two of the most traumatic events of my whole life involved stairs.
At age 22 I fell down a stairway and broke both front teeth off as I embedded them in a windowsill on the wall opposite the stair landing. I had had beautiful teeth and had only had my braces off for almost 2 years. (Crowns took their place, of course, but I’ve never loved the crowns.)
But far worse, my younger sister fell on a stairway and hit her her head, resulting in her untimely death a year and a half ago. In her memory, I make it a point to always have a hand over the railing in case I lose my balance.
(There was also the time I tobogganed on my back and elbows down slippery wet stairs on Sanibel, but aside from colorful bruising, little trauma that time.)

I am amazed at how quickly front page news is abandoned by the media (and the general public of course). Afghanistan is already on the back shelf gathering dust. Basically, covid-19 is the ony news item that has kept its place for the last year. That's because we feel threatened, sort of like the Cold War in the 1960s where some of us were expecting atomic bombs to fall on us at any moment.

Oz cricket had twin brothers playing for a few years in the Oz team. Steve Waugh was a splendid batsman and nearly always picked for inclusion but his brother, Mark, was often left out. This led to his nickname..."Afghanistan" = the forgotten War

I’m wondering if the EU has made any recent progress towards eliminating daylight savings time. Has the plan to stop changing clocks back and forth just faded away? It hasn't gone away but the whole idea was put on hold during covid. Originally, the MEP who started the idea of eliminating daylight saving time hoped for the last change to be made in 2021. Apparently there were consultations with the public over whether they wanted summer time or winter time. But there have been some disagreements among the 27 countries: some want one, some want the other and some want to keep changing. And for some peculiar reason, the EU wants everyone on the same page, without time changes across borders. I personally don't see why, since both the UK and Portugal were an hour ahead of central Europe and in the east, there is an hour difference between Latvia/Estonia and Lithuania. Anyway, now those who want to get rid of DST are hoping it will happen in 2024.

Thanks for the explanation, Bjd. I wish we could make a change here in Florida. It seems to still still caught up in "red tape." I really don’t like to keep changing time every spring and fall. It seems to work okay in Arizona where in 1968 (with the exception of the Navajo Nation) they decided to stick with Mountain Standard time year round.

Dove deep into American English pronunciation this morning after googling how to pronounce “scion”. Reacquainting ourselves with the “schwa”. Remember it? www.dictionary.com/e/ode-to-the-schwa/

My random thought dates from yesterday.
I had cooked magret de canard flambé au rhum and had a brand new bottle of rum. So i drank some of it before putting it back in place and probably too much. At least if i take into account my dizziness this early morning. And alcohol makes me say i love everybody. Well everybody i love. Not that i need much encouragement.
So here we were talking about my MIL and me telling my wife how extraordinary she was, embracing the world, full of curiosity, of plans, avid of travel, reading, gardening, seeing old friends and making new ones. Living her life. Esp when her own mother is a spectator of her own life, making no attempt to make it better, more intense, different.
Then i realised why i love this site : you are all alive. Living. Moving. Curious. Nice. Ready to help, people or dogs. With your pain, your fond memories of loved ones, your fantoms that you never leave in a closet.
We live life, knowing what it can take from us, but also what we can get from it.
That was my random thought. Cheers.

I am parked in a rest atea of the autoroute and am just thinking « should I stop at that store on the road into Paris even though I am sick of driving? »
