Nice spider! Here's one reason we have screens in Florida. It's at least as long as my index finger and flew at my head as I went to open a screen. It then hit the door and fell on its back. I'm hoping it's going to fly away in a minute.

It's gone now. It either revived itself, or something bigger came along to scoop it up.

Is that the husband waiting nervously at the top. Looks like she's already chewed a couple of his legs off!!

That thought never crossed my mind, Mossie. I wonder if you're right.

Beautiful. I love dragonflies. On the other hand, here are some slugs doing what comes naturally.

Actually, I have no idea what they're doing. It looks more like they're eating each other.

You should have hosed them down just to be on the safe side. Now you're going to have millions of little slug babies.

I guess I could have pried them apart with a stick, but we all know they'll be back at it before long. Who could resist...that?

Oh My God! What a beautiful web. We have spiders all over our garden but I have never managed to make a pretty photo of a web.

That is a superb photo of a beautiful web. Congratulations to you, Lizzie, and Ms Orb Weaver (I think).
Did you know that each night she makes a new web then after sunrise eats it back, just leaving the basic framework. It is too much protein for her to lose in a bird strike, animal breaking it etc. so she consumes the protein and next evening spins out the circular net again. As they age and get past reproduction, they eat less of the web each day, the protein is lessening and eventually she dies of starvation. Early in the spider season there are many lovely webs like these here. See how she has sloped it to catch the insects heading for the foliage.

Thank you for that information, questa, that is fascinating! But she wasn't the only spider under that bridge...

Fabulous photos good people.!! I especially love the webs Lizzy. And, the discussion of slug sex brings to mind a book I just purchased (actually, I got 3, 2 for a couple of friends, and one for me.) It's called, Sex On Six Legs: Lessons on Life & Language From the Insect World. by Marlene Zuk I've only read portions of it thus far and it is fascinating. The title certainly caught my eye.
