Maybe we are finally getting our Icelandic volcano bonus with the sunsets. But there have been very few sunsets lately because of all the rain.

Bit of a bugger when the sun doesn't set, isn't it. Throws off the time of sunrise the next day something awful.

We haven't been getting sunrises either. Perhaps I have stopped aging.

When the sky seems to reflect a strange yellow glow on everything we call it 'Artists light' - I think it was my mum who first reffered to it like that. It certainly looks wonderful in your photos Mick!

Kerouac, your photo (#213), reminds of a painting. Really nice.
Mick, isn't it great how many colors the sky can turn to?

Ohhhhh, Mick! I have so often tried to capture that strange light, only to wind up with blah. Your photos are magical. You really caught that strange, suspended enchantment with the first one, and the band of gilding in the second is wonderful. I love the composition of the last one, with the dark rooftops, the fiery sky, and the radiating cables.

More outstanding photos. This theme seems to bring out the best in our photographers.

The view from my friend's hospital room as the sun set on the opposite side of the hospital:

Excellent compensation for being in the hospital! Nothing too serious, I hope.

Actually, she "died" Thanksgiving morning and was resuscitated by her husband, spent 6 days in intensive care in an artificially-induced hypothermic coma to minimize the brain damage. Miraculously, when she was revived, she has regained all her faculties, except her hearing is damaged. She was allowed to leave the hospital shortly after my visit. I may have to revisit my non-spirituality.

Kimby, I already thought the photos were wonderful, with all that golden light. But paired with the story of your friend's "rebirth" ~~ wow-weeee.

Cristina, that is such a great picture. I love the range of shadows, the composition, and the sort of cross-hatching effect. And hey, the giant light pole absolutely dwarfed by the sky kind of adds to the picture.
I can't believe what great shots you capture with your phone.

On the way home from LA this evening...same rest stop, just across the freeway... (apparently I had done some photobucket housekeeping and broke the original link)

Glacier today, lake tomorrow. Or maybe in May, when the ice goes out. There were kite-skiers out there yesterday, on skis being pulled over the snow-covered ice by brightly colored parachute-shaped kites.

January 1, 2011, from the window above my computer... Though Montana is "Big Sky Country", our sunsets (and sunrises) here at the house are not terrribly dramatic, as our valley runs North-South, cutting off the views to the West and East. But sometimes the sky lights up so much that we get to enjoy that part of the sunset anyway.

At a little after 6:20, I glanced through the north-facing window to see drama in the sky. These two photos of the northern sky were taken at 6:23. The last picture, of the western sky, was taken at 6:25, less than half a block away. Returning to the front of my house, the northern display was already gone.
