To open a thread, I click on the last page number showing. If I forget to do that, the thread opens on page 1.

When I get taken back to page 1 in a thread, it’s usually because I have already visited that thread and nothing has been posted since. I almost always click into anyport by using the emailed notifications of new replies in my bookmarked threads, though. Far less frequently use the recent posts feature.

Not that I'm a relentless nag or anything, but that's how you miss stuff!
Also, even if nothing has been posted in a thread since the last time you visited it, you shouldn't be taken back to page one unless that's the only page there is.

What's up with the "quote" feature? Again. It's very persnickety.

What's up with the "quote" feature? Again. It's very persnickety. You just have to be careful not to write in the quote box. Go down at least two lines.

All I do, as I have always done, is go to a post I want to quote and hit the quote button and when the reply screen shows back up it's blank. Edited to add that it doesn't work if it's a post that already has another quote in it. Otherwise it works fine.

Casimira, you might prefer using the Quick Quote feature rather than the Quote button on the message box. That's because with Quick Quote you can quote only what you need. Furthermore, you can go down a thread & do multiple Quick Quotes which will appear in the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the page. This is a great feature everyone needs to know about. For future reference, it's in the How to do Stuff thread in Port Authority, but I'll stick it here as well: QUOTINGTo quote an entire post: click the Quote button in the upper right corner of that post. To quote only part of a post: highlight the chosen portion of text in that post, then click the "Quick Quote" button that will appear after highlighting. Another way to quote only part of a post: click the Quote button on the pertinent post. In the message box, carefully staying within the Quote brackets, delete everything you don't want to quote. Important: when replying to a quote, be sure to begin your reply outside of the ending Quote set of brackets. No need to space down first, as that will happen automatically when your reply is posted.

Irony alert: I was trying to quote Casi's post, "All I do, as I have always done, is go to a post I want to quote and hit the quote button and when the reply screen shows back up it's blank"
Exact same happens to me. The forum software here is pretty badly broken and has been getting worse. I figured out the image posting issue I had was due to a datamining intermediary redirect introduced between the posted image URL and the browser displaying the thread. I guess that's what pays the bills, but it's a broken system nevertheless.

I think you're wrong about that. I use the forum on Opera, which isn't even a supported browser on proboards & I don't have any trouble.

I figured out the image posting issue I had was due to a datamining intermediary redirect introduced between the posted image URL and the browser displaying the thread. Then wouldn't it happen to everyone? Which is appears not to. I use Firefox and can quick quote or all quote.

These things pop up on my phone screen ONLY when I’m using this forum. Is it Pro Boards, or is it me?

I don't use a phone to look at forums but I would not hit OK. Their grammar is wrong: "viruses is detected".

The laptop version is even funnier. "Call this number immediately or everything on your computer will be deleted." But it's not just on this forum -- it can pop up at any time.

For me, it ONLY happens on Any Port. I never click anything. So far so good.
And PS I’m on my phone ALL the time. Just ask Mr. Kimby!

It may be related to "VigLink" which this site uses to monetize all clickthroughs of posted links by redirecting them through this adware site. It is rated as malware by some AV or security software. You can google the name to get more info on it.

Cheery - Bixa I'm sure will help you. I got my son (finally) to show me the ropes. He linked my iPhone Photos directly to my computer. (That is the biggest PLUS) So when I switch on they are all ready and waiting. From there I send them tp my "Downloads" file. When I go on Anyport and click 'add image', it gives me two options and I always select "From Computer". Then I select the photo from the "downloads file' and it goes direct to my post. Hope you get sorted.

I’ve even figured out how to do it on my iPhone. At the bottom is a button called Desktop. Click it, and the phone becomes a much smaller version of the PC version. Click reply (not quick reply), then Add Image is an option at the upper right. Seems pretty intuitive from there.
After your image is uploaded, you can add text below the image URL before publishing the reply.
Then look for the tiny print at the bottom of the screen that says Switch to Mobile Version. Done.

The sister we lost. She was a technology expert in the library field, so might appreciate her image being used to illustrate a tech solution.
