Seems as with fashion ,certain foods are destined to become fads and invariably these fads repeat themselves over time. Sometimes it's a group of foods, more recently there was a resurgence of "comfort foods",the old time favorites being macaroni and cheese, meatloaf, although mashed potatoes seem to have always hung in there. Recently, in some cooking magazines I perused while on holiday I saw that fondues are making a comeback. I remember back in the '60's when fondue parties were all the rage and if I dug around enough in my mother's shed I could have probably found a vintage fondue pot. Some food fads I don't recall having been popular before,"the wrap" for instance ,seems to be a recent innovation (even though we know it's been around hundreds of years in certain cultures).
I am always willing to try this stuff at least once. You never know. So tonight I ate organic wheat & oat patties with spinach and pine nuts. Absolutely could not taste any spinach, but I saw a few greenish flecks. The pine nuts were very much in evidence, though. Of course, everybody knows that pine nuts don't taste like anything. As for the wheat & oat crap, it was absolutely horrible.
I think it would make a good diet food, because one would absolutely never want a second portion.
