This yet again in a blog I perused:
This is about that Mythical Frenchwoman, who no doubt lives in les beaux quartiers, and magically stays slim. Have seen this list more than once. I know exceptions to almost all these things.
And I bet this Frenchwoman has a "Magical Filipina"... and her accountant is an Asian fellow who is very good at maths.
French women don’t:
Snack
Graze by the light of the fridge
Eat lunch at their desks
Keep a stash of food in their office
Eat huge portions
Have breakfast for dinner
Use bottled salad dressing
Drink sodas—diet or regular
Buy “fat-free” or “lowfat” versions of real products
Eat on the run
Drink alcohol, except wine with meals
Refuse to eat what’s served
Eat popcorn and candy at the movies
Count calories or fat grams
Say no to dessert
Eat cheese before a meal (only after)
Go to all-you-can-eat buffets
Have croissants for breakfast every day
Buy in bulk
Eat in front of the television
Ask for seconds
Eat bread before meals

I seldom do any of those, and have been skinny my whole life. Most of those seem like common sense.

why is this in "food"? It is about so-called "positive" stereotypes and mythologies, not about weight loss, for cripes sake. I deliberately added two other positive stereotypes that had to do with housekeeping and mathematical ability, not food or body type. That is why it is in "shipping out", along with the thread about stereotypes and illusions about places.

"Mythical" is definitely the correct word for somebody who does everything on that list.

It's not about French women, it's about what people are supposed to do to stay slim... they just chose to make it sound more real by linking it to the image of women we think of as being glamourous and corresponding to the standards of beauty of the time.
