That looks/sounds scrumptious! What is the vegetable topped with parsley?

Mich64, I think you are referring to the half Gem Squash. Could be called something else where you are. It's pretty tasteless unless you add a knob of butter and some pepper but the good thing is if you eat it plainly it has virtually no calories. Thats why I add the butter!' Most popular way to serve it is to add creamed corn in the hollow and top it with cheese , then under the grill.' Many years ago we were at a Chinese restaurant and they served up lovely juicy prawns mixed into a gem squash. Very unusual.

Pasta is calling out to me, but I am not yet hearing the precise details of dinner.

Made a 50:50 wholemeal:white flour loaf, had some buttered with a pot of thick chunky vegetable soup...delicious and perfect for this cold weather.

We were headed for some Kentucky tonight but when we arrived at the location it was all shut tight. That tells me they have been closed down due to someone having Covid. The other branch near us had a queue right up the road so we came home and I quickly made hake in cheese sauce - all ready frozen just to be cooked either in its pouch or, tipped into a pan to cook. Takes minutes.

Tod, it did look like a slice of acorn/pepper squash which I would also add a lot of butter, pepper and brown sugar to for some flavour. Last night we had lasagna, salad and a calabrese bun. For dessert, we baked a pineapple upside down cake. It was delicious. Our first attempt. The day before I looked through the many recipes on line and while wondering which one I should try I thought to myself "you should just call your sister and ask her which one she used". I had quite a few tears and then chose something I thought might be close to her recipe. Talking with my dad this morning I mentioned to him what we baked and first thing he said, "Cheryl loved making that for dessert." Tonight, I have a pint of sauce that we picked up from our local Italian Club so we are having spaghetti. Also planning my exercise schedule for the upcoming week, with all this pasta I will need to walk some extra steps!

Mich, we sometimes get Acorn Squash here but only seen it quite some time ago. I think it tastes a bit better than Gem Squash with a nuttier flavour. Gems also come differently. Some young ones have a soft skin which is very edible and then the older drier Gem has a really hard skin and is very yellow inside. It does taste better though.
Dinner tonight was ham on a sort of rounded health loaf with hot tea. Something light after our rotisserie leg of lamb for lunch today.

*sigh* All of y'all are having really nice meals.
Even though I knew it was imperative that I go to the market today, I did not do so. The only fresh produce in the house is one small tomato, a tiny bowl of leftover chopped onion, and a bag of limes.
I cooked up an entire kilo of small lentils today and will make some rice. The items listed above will become some kind of relish and there's supper.

Tonight I had rolled thin slices of mutton (sold frozen from China) which I cooked in a frying pan, Chinese spinach (from the Paris suburbs which has huge Chinese farms) and some boiled potatoes. They all went together well.

I am cooking red lentils to eat tonight -I have added various spices including fresh ginger, fresh chilli , dried cumin. At the last minute I will add some spinach and maybe some bean sprouts ( just because I love them).

Sounds wonderful!
Supper tonight was French toast made with sesame seed/whole wheat sourdough bread. I fried a banana to have alongside. It was nice but way too sweet by the end of the meal.

It was a team work last night. My daughter did the beans, i cooked the magret de canard, with blueberries and a ton of honey + quite a lot of vinegar, and i reheated the rice of the daughter and mashed potatoes of the in law. Then there was a crumble but with quite a lot of sugar, so i said I'd pass and when i changed my mind there was none left.

Microwave dinner tonight: confit de canard with semi-mashed potatoes. It was on special at the supermarket. I would not be surprised if I discovered that I made a little roquette salad with it.

I was supposed to do groceries today but woke up with a severe headache, therefore, my husband went to town and picked up a shortened list. I included a deli rotisserie chicken and potato wedges to reheat at dinner time.

Kerouac said"; Chinese spinach (from the Paris suburbs which has huge Chinese farms) and some boiled potatoes"".
Tell me more about the huge Chinese farms Kerouac. How far out of the city are they and in what direction. When I've walked up Ave de Choisy and seen the vegetable sellers plying their trade on the sidewalk it never occurred to me that the fresh spinach and bok choy and snake beans would have been grown locally. I can understand the fruit like rambutans and durian being shipped in but leafy greens I'm sure would not survive for long.

I am now feeling better. I roasted a chicken with a sage and onion dressing (stuffing?) I made a package of Knorr Parmesan noodles to which I cook as per the directions but then put into a casserole dish, top with more fresh Parmesan and black pepper. I put it in the oven until the chicken is crispy. I sliced up some cucumbers, salt and pepper.

I'll bet your roast chicken is better than the deli rotisserie chicken! The whole meal sounds lovely. I'm glad you're feeling better. Headaches are the worst!

Thank you Mick and Bixa. My headaches are complicated but this one seemed to be weather related, a really quick drop in temperature caused a crushing sensation.
The roasted chicken was better than the rotisserie but probably because I like how the sage and onion dressing flavours through I think. I had quite a bit leftover so tomorrow I will get some buns from the bakery and make a club sandwich (chicken, lettuce, tomato and bacon with mayonnaise) and fries for dinner.

I do know that many of the Chinese vegetables sold in France are grown in the suburbs (generally in Seine-et-Marne east of Paris), but have to make the confession that I looked at the label on the Chinese spinach, and it came from Spain. That makes sense in terms of the season. Perhaps if I buy it again later in the year, it will come from France.

Thanks Kerouac. It looks like quite a huge area incorporating several cantons. I see Meaux and Provins are in Sein-et-Marne, Meaux having the largest population - back in 2017. I am not surprised that greens like spinach come from nearby regions like Spain. Here we have Kenya on our doorstep where a huge amount of "delicate"vegetables are found in our supermarkets.

bought a salmon trout today - bought the smallest one they had, which was still kind of big for me, but i managed to eat it all (baked in the oven with oil, lemon, salt and garlic, and also with potatoes and parsley and some green beans) ...

Delicious Rikita! I much prefer trout or salmon trout to the more meaty Norwegian salmon. The potatoes and green beans were a perfect accompaniment.
Meanwhile in the Tod house I served up a Boeuf Bourguignon made with a lot of French Burgundy and also flamed in brandy. I managed to find a variety of mushrooms which included a large piece of Porcini.
