The apple pie was finished today I was going to make spaghetti bolognese for dinner but when I told Jeff he said 'Again?' *sigh* I hadn't made it for a couple of weeks but he wanted Cumberland pie. I didn't tell him but I'd already made the beef bolognese but I just used that as a base and topped it with mashed potato sprinkled with grated cheese and fine breadcrumbs then baked. I've reduced the size of our meals considerably, post covid our appetites have just fizzled. No bad thing because we've both always been 'big eaters' and we aren't as active as we used to be. Anyway it means that I had enough beef bolognese for two more meals so that's gone into the freezer. (I started out with 500g <5% fat minced beef). It just seems odd that seemingly overnight our appetites have shrunk by two thirds!

I am. It into this problematic.
I made a barbecue. 3 sausages. 3 mergez. 4 nuggets. One large breast of chicken. One pork rib.
We were 4. Ok we have about one mergez to the dog.
Plus some carrots and potatoes. And a bottle of wine.

Quick and simple stir fry. Chicken, water chestnuts, carrot, onion, peppers and egg noodles cooked with a generous slosh of ketjap manis. Lovely and ready in less than 10 minutes (including the chopping)

Looks very good.
I had Vietnamese nems (fried egg rolls) with lettuce and mint leaves, very traditional although Vietnam is more than 2000km long and the style changes as you work your way up or down the country. Even the name changes as you travel to a different area. Nem is the North Vietnamese name while the same item is called chả giò in the south. In fact, it was French tourists who imported the name nem to the south over time because it was easier to pronounce than chả giò. You can now order a nem in Saigon and they will know what you want.
While lettuce leaves are the usual outer rolled wrapping whih you pick up with your fingers, I have had nems with basil leaves, coriander, chopped peanuts and a number of unidentified herbs.

I made some burgers using <5% beef mince, grilled the patties and served with fried onions and cheese slices in soft burger buns. Condiments were provided.

It's basically "thin long slices" -- vaguely needle shaped I suppose. These are available in France for all sorts of poultry. I think for the producers it is a way of not wasting breasts that are not perfect but which have plenty of meat to use. For customers, it is a great way to save time because it cooks so quickly. Also they can be arranged to look nice on a plate, but that is the least of my worries.

I agree. My bottle is white, as well. Being in the US, I’m limited as to what I can purchase, but found both a red and a white at my local liquor store. The Pineau is from cognac grapes, Domaine Francis Abécassis.

I had a sort of macaroni and cheese, except that I used emmental, mozzarella and crème fraîche in the mix, not to mention butter, chopped onions and lardons, which were never invited in the first place. Delicious.

I can hear your arteries hardening from here.
Went to Costco today alone. That meant I didn't have to coordinate times with anyone else so wandered through the store gaily tossing things in my cart ~~ ghee! (why?) asst. Italian cold cuts! Costo's not-very-good ciabatta!, etc. etc. to the point that I blanched when told my bill.
Anyway, I had not eaten before hitting the cathedral of stuff I don't really need, so came home @4 quite hungry. Had a Kirkland all beef hot dog on ciabatta & was stuffed, so no dinner tonight except for the (California) grapes I'm snacking on right now.

Tonites dinner - Just finished prepping green beans (my favourite green veg of all), and a large gem squash. Also a few small thumb size red potatoes in case this store bought Ready Meal of Cottage Pie is a bit skint on the topping of potato.
