All my life I have been told, "you look so much like your mother",still others say; "you like so much like your father". While some of us undoubtedly strongly resemble one parent over another, there are others who apparently can and do resemble both at any given time by any given person. My husband has always contended that daughters tend to look like their fathers, and sons favor their mother. I don't find this to be always true. Whom do you favor?

I know that I look more like my father's family, but less so than my sister does. In fact, I once met a first cousin on my father's side and everyone was struck by how eerily similar we looked. But much is in the eye of the beholder, I think. My mother claims that my sister and I have no resemblance whatsover, where even I can see similarities. I suppose she is swayed by the dissimilarities in our characters.
My neighbour hedges her bets about our kids: she claims one son looks like his father, one looks like me, and our daughter is a mixture of both of us.

For most of my life, I looked like my father. As I've become older, I resemble my mother more in facial structure, but not in coloring. I'm a light olive skinned brunette like my father. My mother is a strawberry blond Irish woman. I don't think I will ever be mistaken for Irish. Of my own children, my two oldest children resemble me most, especially college girl. My youngest daughter is her father's mini-me.

I look like my mother and my brother looks like my father.
The resemblance with my mother was so striking that when I was in my twenties, more than once complete strangers walked up to me and were able to identify who I must be, not just in the ancestral village but in the big city. For example, in the suburbs of Paris I walked into a café near the train station closest to where my great aunt used to live and the woman behind the bar said "you must be the son of Mme. Legrand's niece!"

well in my case some say i look like my father, others say i look like my mother. i think i do in fact look more like my mother, but since i have my father's hair colour, and red hair is kind of distinctive, people are often misled by that... personally of course i don't think i look all that much like my mother either, but i suppose it is often difficult for oneself to judge that. i don't think i like much like my brother (the oldest of the three) either, but people did sometimes recognize me as his sister, even when he wasn't present. my other brother (the middle one) when he was a baby looked very much like i did as a baby, i think. by now not quite as much, but i guess there is still some resemblance, and in that case of course the hair emphasizes that. my youngest brother looks more like his mother in some aspects i guess (like, he is the only one of us four that has brown eyes), though he looks enough like me (again red hair) to probably be mistaken for my son when he is with me. oh and recently when i showed him a picture of me when i was about his age, he thought that is him. but then i guess it is difficult for him to understand, that i was once four years old, too...

There is a strong gene at play on my Mum's side of the family. My younger brother and I look very much like each other and my Mum. People who knew my Mum when she was my age now always comment how identical I am to her then. The same with my grandma and great-grandma, we have all looked bizarrely alike. I have a great Aunt who says now I remind her very much of how she remembers her Mum (my Great Grandma) when she was a child. Similiar to Rikita's little brother, when mine was very small he saw a picture of my great-grandma at aged 5 to 6 as I was then, she was sitting amongst a class of about 30 children and he pointed straight to her and said "Lizzy" (thats me ). My two older brothers are spitting images of my Dad. To the point I recently met one I hadn't seen for 20 yrs and when he stepped off the boat I thought my Dad was with him for a split second, but it was him

My nephew used to look like his mother, but when he came to visit he had suddenly turned into his father. More than once, I had the weird feeling that I was with my big brother, except that somehow my brother was 25 years younger than I. Not a pleasant feeling!

I've seen the same thing with my nephews and nieces too, Kerouac. Sometimes, it's just uncanny how kids can be so like one or other of their parents or even grandparents, and aunts, uncles etc.

A few years ago I arranged to meet with an old friend of my dad's, whom I had never met. He asked how he'd know me and I told him not to worry, that he would recognize me. When we met, he started laughing and said that he immediately knew I was my father's daughter.

My features are nearly identical with my mothers (I once had a carnival mask made that was an imprint of my face and it fitted my mother perfectly) but I am blonde with blueish eyes and she has red hair and brown eyes so it is not that obvious.

I am named after my dad's mother, who died quite young. Years ago my father took me to meet a lady who'd been his mother's closest friend. As we entered her house, she took my chin in her hands and peered at me, saying, "Aw, you don't look a thing like her. What a shame!" One of my nieces does look a great deal like her, though, so it skipped two generations. Here's she is with my gangly teen dad, whom I do resemble.

on my grandfather's birthday they showed some family films they had made when he was younger, so my dad and his brothers and sister were on those a lot - my dad there was a bit older than my little brother is now (4) - and looked so much like him, everyone was amazed. even though we usually say my brother looks more like his mother, he does seem to look like his father a lot too. of course, my dad's wife somehow fits in very well in the family, people keep asking us if we are sisters... i think when they see my dad, her, me and my brother together, people are often confused in what family relation we stand. she has red hair too.

Oh ~~ I remember some pictures you showed of your little brother on ttr. You both have the most glorious hair. That's funny about people not understanding the relationships. Here am I and my little boy:
