It's a good market to buy land where I am at the moment. At some point, I'd like to purchase some more land, probably between 100 to 200 acres. The price of land here at the moment is not all that expensive, at least not in the right areas. The cities are a different matter of course.
I've always wanted a cabin in the woods, preferbably on an acreage with water frontage or a beach. It would be a project for the guys in my family to build something for recreations purposes, hunting, boating etc.
I was just curious, as to how much an acre of land would cost in the area or country that you are in? Here it various, and depending on if one is looking for a water frontage or not.

Can you do whatever you want with land there? You can't in France, because if it is zoned as agricultural land, you can't build on it.

We still own a couple of hectares of land above our old house in the Herault. It is a rocky hillside with crumbling terraces, a small spring and trees but a good view. We asked an agent how much he thought we could sell it for. He said, As it is, maybe 1000 euros. But if the commune gave it a certificat d'urbanisme (outline planning permission to build) then maybe 30,000 euros.

Pretty much, Kerouac. This country has a vast amount of land, one of the advantages of living here, especially in my area.

baz, it may be worth waiting it out, or leaving it to your kids, it's bound to go up in price.

I came within a hairsbreadth of buying 40 acres of very beautiful but very remote land near here. It was very, very cheap and was idyllic, about half forest and half cleared. The same money would only buy a small house or lot in town but in retrospect I'm really very glad I went that way instead. As I get older the allure of country living seems to be waning, and I'm not sure I'd even want the responsibility of acreage in any case.

Well, I already live on an acreage. But it doesn't have a water frontage.
I actually like the idea of a cabin in a somewhat remote location, and land is not that expensive in certain places, I think that will change however, probably sooner then later. It's an investment, in more ways then one. I think it would be interesting to see what my boys would build on it in the future. Especially if (more than likely), they end up living in one of the bigger cities, it would be a nice retreat.

I grew up in the country and still can't take more than about 48 hours of it at a time. I was born for the city.

I'm the opposite, I'm a country girl born and bred. I've lived in the city and it can be fun for a while, but I always enjoy coming back to the beauty and tranquility of the country side...

Yeah, that would be cool. I'd love to have an apartment in Montreal or Vancouver...
