First the bad bureaucracy story, which will be brief because I'm very pissed off about it. My atm card expired & my credit card will expire at the end of August. The bank was supposed to send new ones to my mother's house (my billing address), with both cards due to expire on the same day as far in the future as possible. Then, my mother was going to mail them to a friend visiting in the States who'd hand carry them back to me. However, the bank sent the two new cards and they both expire at the end of August of this year. They did this THREE times. Will end story here. Am hyperventilating.
Now the nice story ~~ Our electric bills here come every two months. I decided to check it online tonight as I'm eager to know what the next bill will be since the outside wiring was replaced. I was horrified to see that the last bill was showing as red (unpaid), rather than the nice green of a paid bill. I went tearing through my messy little piles of stuff and found the bill and the receipt showing it was paid. Then I called the electric company. (this was at 10 pm tonight) The lady who helped me was lovely and pleasantly efficient and said that I was shown as paid up and the red bill online was just one of those things. Wasn't that nice?

My best friend was pickpocketed last week, and the police would not take his complaint until he went home (needing to jump the turnstiles because he had no money to buy a ticket) and brought back other identity papers since his ID card had been stolen in the lot.

One of my colleagues died two weeks ago, and of course, even in a case like that, termination papers need to be processed.
The head office refused to complete the processing until we confirmed that the person was "not eligible for rehire."

Perhaps they would accept the mug shot and fingerprints (taken by the police when they arrested him for jumping the turnstile) as identification?! What idiocy!

This goes back a long way,and has reared it's ugly head of late...a friend of mine has wanted,or rather, her husband wants for her to have a couple of scars removed that were sustained during a unfortunate and horrific episode a long time ago, when she was much, much younger. The scars are more visible to him, than they are to her. Numerous attempts to have her medical insurance cover the removal of these scars has resulted in a denial, stating that such a procedure falls under cosmetic surgery. Despite testimony from a psychiatrist,(actually,a couple of Drs.)attesting to the trauma etc. involved from the past event, the insurance company continues to deny any coverage. Now,with a new insurance company involved, another appeal has been filed. Odds are, another denial will occur,I would bet money on it... How would this play out in another country,I am curious?

The same thing could happen in France, but I suspect that there would be less resistance on allowing the procedure, because it would be the call of the government health authorities and not that of any insurance company (which would then be obliged to cover its share of the procedure if the government health coverage was incomplete -- due to choosing a private doctor, for example).

Our company lawyer charges us 530€ an hour (that's close to $700 an hour American). Every phone call is billed 100€ and when he sends an email, he charges 44€.
All of us have noticed that he is about the "worst" lawyer in the world, because absolutely no case is ever resolved. They just go on and on and on for some reason.
I wonder why that might be?
