If you've never seen this -- or even if you have -- it's worth getting up in the wee hours and driving to a remote location with no ambient light to witness it. If possible, go camping.
I saw the last big show @10 years ago, and it remains one of the high points of my life.

They're going to have to get lower than about 100 feet to be visible here!

Clouds?
You may not want them quite that close. ;D

Went to bed very early expressly to be able to try and catch but it was too cloudy still to be able to see anything.

I tried to stay up and couldn't. The last time I saw them, we went way out in the country, far from any lights at all. We all huddled around the fire on the porch of an adobe house and waited. Every once in a while someone would go behind the house, away from the light of the fire, to check. When it finally started, it was breathtakingly gorgeous and dramatic -- so thrilling it will stay with me forever. But, damn, that was a long, cold night!

You saw in Mexico Bixa? Mr.C. remembers the last one as well. Will try to see again in early dawn hours tomorrow. It's clear here today.

Yes. I'm trying to remember exactly when. I'm thinking 2001. Gad, I hope you get to see it. Words cannot do it justice!

Woke up at 2:30 a.m.,watched the sky for a bit, nada. Mr.C. had to drive to Venice,LA at 4:00a.m.,directly SE from here which was supposed to be the best viewing. Even with no major ambient light he said he saw no activity. Apparently, this was the case all over. Some of the best spots for viewing,NA and Asia, both reported very few showers.

Is it wrong for me to be relieved that I didn't miss anything? I got up in the wee hours to pee, but fell back into bed without thinking about meteors. The sky is covered with low-pressure clouds, so I doubt there was anything to see.
