I am not proud of my feelings, but I found myself satisfied to see this on the news tonight.

I'm appalled. What the hell was that man hoping to accomplish throwing a statuette at the PM? This accomplishes nothing but providing sympathy and a rallying point for him and his supporters. I'm tempted to have a rant at the Italians for re-electing him but I live in a country that re-elected GWB so thus have no standing to criticize.

Frankly, I don't think Berlusconi will get extra sympathy. Sure, his diehard supporters will support him even more.

I loathe Berlusconi, but this is not good news. He is a 73-year-old man (although he pretends to be 53). I do think this will only win him sympathy. The man who attacked him has a history of mental illness - I don't think it was a matter of a violent political opponent. I wans to see Berlusconi in the dock for corruption, not harmed or dead of a heart attack caused by an attacker.

We talked about him at the office today and the general consensus was satisfaction. I think that Berlusconi is loathed even more than Sarkozy. He has replaced George W. Bush in French hearts.

I'd hate to have to choose between that particular pair.
Hate.
