I went to the mall yesterday to look for clothes and I not believe some of the styles that were out there. They looked like stuff from the 80's - shoulder pads, flourescent pink animal prints, pants that were scarily similar to parachute pants. Sorry, but that is one decade that needs to stay in the past.
Is this a Chile thing or is it happening elsewhere too?

Oaxaca is sort of a backwater, so I wouldn't know. Wasn't the 70s the most recent wave of ugly fashion to return? Girls here look like they dressed themselves from Mary Richard's closet.

I still reel in shock when I see what all of the Russian tourists are wearing. Total time warp!

The women aren't still in beehives & pointy-toed stiletto heels, are they?

I know a young woman, quite lovely, began appearing in these outfits that were vaguely reminescent of something I wasn't quite sure what. So, I asked her and her response was: "I'm trying to bring back the '80's" My response: "Why?" She shrugged so I jokingly asked her "do me a favor? " When you do, please tell me what happened?" She got it, I think. Her clothes however, were not new, so, I guess she was on to something. Shudder...

Russian women are still very attracted to fake leather, fake fur and miniskirts that could be mistaken for hotpants.

I've got several of the real articles in my wardrobe - they are not the extreme articles with fluorescent colors, but they have waistlines at the natural waist and don't look like the maternity dresses that passed for fashion in the past few years. I've taken the shoulder pads out and they are very, very nice. I get compliments all the time.
I think a modified '80's look can be very nice.

I loved the eighties. I had some really cool clothes back then. Shame I didn't keep them, they could come in handy for any eighties party. I wouldn't wear them otherwise though.

Yes Bix, 70s were in and now its the 80s. Fashion seems to be directed at what ever would have been in fashion when 18-24 year olds would have been children. I guess its playing on nosalgia or something.
On this basis I predicted the return of bubble skirts and mark my words another 5 years and grunge will be back.

Hey, I'll wear those clothes again if I can have back my youth to go with it.

Somehow I never really did succumb to "trendy" apparel, I have and wear some of the same "classic" clothes I wore 25 years ago, they are pretty much timeless. An accessory here and there can give them the timely flourish they might call for.

I wish I could fit into clothes I wore, even 10 years ago, let alone 25!

I might still fit into the t-shirts from the eighties but no way in the jeans.

I thought the 80s were terrible but they were a good part of my life. Right now my favourite gripe is mens' haircuts. They (15- 35, every male under 35 is called a boy here...) love the "Korean" style...

Oh my God, yes. I feel like pulling them into a barber shop and having them shaved every time I see them...
