I promised a thread for bjd who likes boats, like I do. These are from different places but are all work boats, no floating gin-palaces here! Canal boat. St Petersburg Catherine the Great's summer playground. Passing the Kremlin on Moscow River. Derelict on Lake Baikal, Siberia Sri Lankan fishing boats. Trincomalee Sri Lanka. Waiting for the tide. Sanur, Bali Amed, east Bali, snorkelling boat. Lake Bratan, high in the mountains of Bali Moroccans like blue boats... Lots and lots of blue boats. These boats run a shuttle service taking tourists from one major island to another. These run between the inner islands...if they don't have engine, pumps or overloading problems.(Lombok) Sengiggi Beach, Lombok Retired. West Bali. Bribie Island, Queensland, Australia.

That is an excellent collection of boats, which also makes one reflect on the differences in boat design around the world as people decided "I want to float on water" but had all sorts of different ideas about it.
I brought the boats to their proper home, bjd -- and I hope that you don't mind, questa.

I have taken this from a collection of assorted pics emailed to me. The ship is passing through the Canal of Corinth.

A Dutch tramp from Rotterdam flogging up the Orwell towards Mistley and Ipswich. These small boats shuttle general cargo about the North Sea.

What an excellent group, Fumobici! I particularly love the first one, with those strong pops of yellow contrasting with the cloudy gray sky, and the great magazine cover futuristic effect of the tall buildings against that sky.

Thanks. The featured ship--it's actually a barque not a ship--is a Mexican training vessel on tour berthed in Seattle. I'm fascinated by large sailing craft so I took lots of photos, might be worth a report. The barque's name, Cuauhtemoc, I couldn't even guess how to pronounce properly but I imagine you might.

I got a glimpse of it in Rouen many years ago! It's nice to see that it is still going strong.

I love sailing boats, too. I have seen (and photographed) a lot of the big ones at the Tall Ships' Race in Antwerp a few years ago. I especially liked the impressive Amerigo Vespucci ... and its crew. All I have for now is this small fishing boat in Étretat.

This is the time of year when north Florida becomes very beautiful. My favorite time here. It's finally become more bearable to be outdoors after months of miserable hot and humid weather.
Funny about that kayaker. As he approached the point where I was partially hidden on a trail, I heard him tell his buddy he saw a deer. I assume he's smiling after realizing the deer was me.
