What a sweetheart!
My son had a dog who was raised with cats and really liked them. Poor thing, when he took her for walks she always wanted to make friends with any cats they encountered. She was always shocked by their reactions.

That is like this guy. He gets a bewildered look on his face when cats run away from him. He doesn't understand why they don't react the way the cats in the house do. There is one street we often take on walks that always has a lot of cats around. As soon as we turn the corner, he starts to get all excited at the prospect of cats.
At this moment, the black cat is grooming him and purring.

It's that whole pack mentality that emerges and is so beautiful to watch. My dog is quite the same way,he really just wants to play with any cat he sees. My beloved dog who died in April '08 had gone blind and my husband's cat Grazie used to brush up next to him and herd him away from trees etc. How old is your dog Gringlais? He apperars to be a pup.

At the subway exit that I use to go to work, there is a beggar with two cats and a dog in a little basket. They are always asleep as I walk by, and they seem perfectly content in spite of the bitter chill.

Aww, that is very sweet. The dog in the pics is 4 now, but some of those shots are from when he was still pretty young.

What an adorable doggie you've got gringalais ! My dog used to like cats, she always went up to them and wanted to lick them. Unfortunately the cats missunderstood and slapped her. Now she chases them away. She gets REALLY mad if we happen to have a cat in our back yard where our rabbits live. She chases the cats away to protect her bunny friends.

Thanks!
And just so you know, the black kitten in one of the pictures is looking a lot nicer now. That picture was from when I recently rescued her from the street and she was pretty grungy and her fur was ugly.

I decided to go with the dogs by the painted cat again to see if he would be fooled a second time. He is generally a smart dog, but he did the same thing, got all excited until he touched it with his nose. I guess his cat obsession just gets the best of him.

I see you let your pets on your bed - like I do!

Yep. I'm sitting on bed with the laptop right now and am accompanied by the 2 small dogs, the big orange cat and the little brown dog's kitty girlfriend, who is curled up next to him. Since I work from home and can feel a bit isolated, I like having them nearby to keep me company.

I'll try and post a pic of my ginger tom, tomorrow. Perhaps I ought to have more pets like you have. Who looks after them when you go away? I would have that problem. Here's my ginger tom now. May I present Dash the Cat?

Thank you. Yes, he IS wonderful. We adore each other. I'd be lost without him. He is making the most of the little sunshine we have. See - I put out a cushion for him.

Very cute, I like the moustache too.
We are very fortunate that our good neighbor friends, who also love animals and have a house full of rescued pets care for our pets when we go out of town. They don't let us pay them, but we help them out with stuff like taking their pets to the vet since they don't have a car and I have kept a few of her rescues at my house while they were trying to rehome them. It is great that I can leave the pets in familiar surroundings with people they know and who care about them.
That is going to be a big drawback when we eventually buy a house and move. I never intended to have so many pets, but with the stray problem here, animals in need always seem to find me. I have rehomed a bunch too, but some end up staying. Fortunately, vet costs are very reasonable here.

Oh, I'm in love!
I used to take care of a HUGE ginger tom - not fat, practically as large as a lynx. Alas his people had him declawed so once he bit me when I was trying to prevent him from going out (because of declawing). His fangs practically went into the bone, and I had to go to hospital emergency. This was a gentle old guy; he was just frightented.
And how I love the black cat, I'm especially fond of black cats and have had quite a few over the years.

the pictures of the dog with the cats are so cute... you should post some on icanhascheezburger, i can already think of a bunch of captions they could have...
i unfortunately have neither the space nor the time for pets, but should i ever have a house, then i'd like to have some cats...
