I have 2 brothers, the one has a daughter and a son, they have always called me Aunty Palesa, at their parent's instruction. I have regularly said there was no need, but at the age of 22 ad 19 they still call me Aunty Palesa.
My other brother has 2 children, they have never called anyone aunty in their life.
Today it struck me, that the 2 that call me Aunty, somehow interact with the world better and it is not because of their parents, their mother is mentally unstable and has caused both children lots of tears, heartache and long term therapy.
(I think they are generally more responsible and respectful)
Could a little thing like that make a difference in the way you see the world?

It gives more of a sense of family, no?

Or more of a sense of respect towards adults? That's my first thought.

I think maybe a bit of both, come to think of it.
I am very clearly family to those that call me Aunty and to this day, when the shit hits the fan, I am the first person they call.
And they are probably brats, druggies and holigans, but when they are in the company of adults, they behave appropriately.
Well, when my nieces step father crapped her out (un called for) she turned around and told him to go and fuck himself and he is not her father, secretly I applauded her, but to her face I suggested she should just walk away from him. He is known to have a violent temper.

They seem to not only respect you but also feel a sense of security with you.
